i have a cobra f1s slip on, on the bike right now but, it is all marred from being dropped by the previous owner.   i want to get a pipe that isnt scratched and most likely new.  what i was wondering is,  in your opinion what would be the nicest system out right now?  i dont really care about noise and i dont need some super cool race exhaust.  i have heard good things about the yosh and v&h but, the v&h rusts easily i hear.  just let your opinions fly and tell me where i can get it for cheap!  :thumb:

You might be able to call Cobra (which is really Kerker I believe) and buy just the outter sleve or other parts you need separately. Or jsut buy another whole F1 slip on since your bike is happy with that.

If you don't want to do that, watch ebay, used and new GS systems pop up from time to time.

1-performance wise, is the cobra slip on equal to the vance&hines?

2-what is the diffrence between the f1s and the f1r

3-also i went to yoshimura's website, http://www.yoshimura-rd.com/ and i failed to notice what pipe is made for the gs500.  can anybody inform me on wich model will work?

sometimes i wonder if i have too much time on my hands

1.  Not even close.  the Yosh with pod kit and Stage 3 jet will blow away a
slip on.  but they don't make it anymore.  I think the V&H with the  above other options are close.

2.  Sound and shape  S is louder and more sport bike oriented

3.  they haven't mad e a Yosh pipe for 8-ish years(please confirm)

4.  the amount of money your looking to spend on this, why not just get the SV 650?<Ducks, runs for cover>  It'll have the performance boost, plus tires, springs and seat.

I think there is around a 1-2 HP advantage with the Yosh over the V&H due to the Yosh having better back pressure, but they are both definitely better than a slip-on. The slip-on is almost just a sound improvement over stock.   Yosh no longer makes a pipe for the GS so you have to look on E-bay or another classified.  The V&H does rust on the header pipes, even when stored indoors, and son't spend over $300.

I have run the Yosh and Vance + Hines back to back on the same bike on the same dyno.  Ya get ~ 2 hp more with the yosh on a stockish motor with a teeny bit of head work and a jet kit.  The V&H has less volume, plus it is a cheaper, older design.  I own one of each.  Like everyone sez, ya can't get the Yosh anymore.  Too bad.  If one comes up on Ebay, buy it.

Hey Jason!
Get back to class you slacker!
I didn't drop the bike, it was the guy (or girl) before ME that did it.  I wouldn't dump a ton into the ol' girl.  Get another Cobra F1S...cost ya about $150.  Hope she's running well!
Ciao!

Have you tried using a green scour pad to get the scratches out?  I use one on mine and it shines it and makes it look better :thumb:  :thumb:

dont know how a stock system feels, but im running a Hindle, i have a full Yosh system, but its in rought shape and the repair job is crap, im gonna have to grind that Bubble gum welding job my buddy did and redo it.  I about Flipped when he brought it back,  "here you go man, Did it myself" ah gee, thanks. would seem he had to use 6 rods to weld the right hand pipe backon to the collecter.  (shiver)
