Wow. He was actually really smooth going through all the cars, and gave most of them plenty of room when passing them.

130mph? That bike was probably just waking up.

And is 100mph really that fast? Is there some magic line between 99mph and 100mph? I don't know of any car made today that can't touch 100mph (Hummers aren't cars). Is it really that fast? I mean, you can go 100mph on some highways and if you get ticketed you simply have to pay a fine, no loss of license or jail time or anything.

100mph, is not fast, as simple as that. but here in oregon, they have this new law 100mph= $1,000 dollar ticket automatically!

I just saw in the paper that a GSXR 1000 was doing 150mph (then the rider sayd "no, i was doing 180mph"). Anyway, they have raised the fine to $1103 (how they come up with that $3 i don't know) and automatic 30-60 day license suspension. That's a bit harsh for a measly 100mph.

It is when the boys in blue are behind you with their lights on.

You can do 100mph in a 30 and potentially keep your license (potentially). Hell, some people hit 100 before they leave their driveway. But 100 on the highway is a big no no.

What is the mentality that makes people think 100mph is wicked fast?

We have 80mph highways here in Texas, and if you get caught doing 100 on these highways its simply a 20mph over the limit ticket. Most people travel at 80 or more on the non-80mph highways here.

Wow...  He totally lost the cops and only got busted 'cause the news chopper was on his ass.

makenzie71

I dunno man...he wasn't stopped a minute before the cops got there.

RVertigo

But, only 'cause they knew where the news chopper was...

He could have totally lost them if not for that.

They just mentioned another guy on a motorcycle getting pulled over for 132mph. And somebody on the news (radio news) was talking about how this $1103 ticket for 100mph isn't slowing people down and that many people still do 100mph and how it's very dangerous for people to be going these extremely high speeds. I would consider extremely high speed around 200+. Most the stuff below that is just very fast!

There's obviously some relativity here, 100 is not so fast when youre surrounded by cars going 85, but its extremely fast on city streets in a high speed pursuit.  Thats a menace to society, and it endangers innocent people.  Face it, if you go down at 100 on city streets, your chances of survival are not great.

++ to what Stephen said.

Think about the difference in speed...  If everyone around you is going 80 and you're doing 100, it's like going 20 MPH in a parking lot what cars that can jump out of nowhere...

On a surface street where people are more likely to be going 30 or 40, 100 MPH is f%$king INSANE!  It's like blazing through that same parking lot at 60-70 MPH.  You gotta be out of your head to do that.

Now, 100 isn't THAT fast on an empty highway...  But, when you think about a 2 second minimum reaction time and a realistic braking distance, 100 MPH is still plenty fast.

130 on a public street is just retarded. :dunno_white:

makenzie71

Seeing 130mph on occasion I can tell you that it's not that fast.  I don't consider anything very fast until after about 145mph (the point at which tunnel vision really starts to do it's thing).  You just have to have your perceptions tuned to the enviroment.

If the subject in question is an idiot, then anything can be too fast.

People die everyday regardless of speed.

RVertigo

130 on a track is fine.

130 on any public road with other vehicles around...  RETARDED.

makenzie71

RVertigo

Dude...  I know you're all "Super Cool" and whatnot...  But, Srsly...  130 on a public road is RETARDED.

You have no idea what could be in the road...  You have no idea what could happen to you...  And NO ONE is out there waiting for you to crash.

You know it's retarded...  You don't even have to admit that it's retarded... Just move along.

makenzie71

actually with no intersections and 2 miles of visibillity it's hard to not see something coming at you.  Of course no one's looking out for you...but out here you can go down at 70 and no one would be there.  Speed is moot in certain circumstances.

RVertigo

Brick Wall, meet your twin MAK.

DUDE!

AUGH!

Anyway...  You know it's retarded and so does everyone else...  So....

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

everyone knows?  Well I don't...so educate me.

You said its dumb because you can't see what's happening.  I just told you visibillity is literally miles.  No intersections.  So how's this point valid?

Now, let toss a blow-out into the mix.

You go down at 130mph and slide into a barbed wire fence.  Devestating results and no one's out there to help you.  If you slide into that fence at 70mph, though, the results are no less devestating...and there's still no one there to help you?  So hows that valid?

Excessive speed in the vacinity of traffic, and outriding your perception, is retarded.  Neither one of those is dependant on any specific speed.  They both vary tremendously by enviroment...sometimes 20mph is excessive.
