I also dropped it on my way home from the confrontation with the cop. Fortunately, I was so jacked up on adrenaline that I picked it right back up... then went "whoa.. I picked it up"...

   Even with adrenaline pumping, all I can do is kick him and wait for someone to help me pick him up!

The bike, folks...the bike!   :flipoff:

In most states it's not illegal, just frowned upon. You won't get a ticket for lane splitting, you'll get one for reckless driving or some other type BS. I believe that California is the only state where it is defined as legal. I know for a fact that it is undefined in Texas, but I've been pulled over for it.

I thought this law in TX made it legal as of sept 2005....

No. 1522A BILL TO BE ENTITLEDAN ACTrelating to the operation and movement of motorcycles during periods of traffic congestion.   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                           SECTION 1.  Section 545.060, Transportation Code, is amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:   (a)  An operator on a roadway divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic:      (1)  shall drive as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane, except as provided by Subsection (e); and      (2)  may not move from the lane unless that movement can be made safely.       (e)  The operator of a motorcycle may operate the motorcycle for a safe distance between lanes of traffic moving in the same direction during periods of traffic congestion if the operator:      (1)  is at least 21 years old;                                               (2)  has successfully completed a motorcycle operator training and safety course under Chapter 662;      (3)  is covered by a health insurance plan providing the operator with at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries incurred as a result of an accident while operating a motorcycle; and      (4)  operates the motorcycle:                                                   (A)  at a speed not more than five miles per hour over the speed of the other traffic;         (B)  in traffic that is moving at a speed of 20 miles per hour or less; and         (C)  in a location other than a school crossing zone or other than a location where the posted speed limit is 20 miles per hour or less.   SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.

Every state except california specifically does not allow lane sharing in their vehicle Code, except a few exceptions that are in the process of trying to change that. I think Oregon is also trying to adopt something.

check out laneshare.com or laneshare.org, can't remember which...

Moved to Atlanta about 20 years ago and got stuck here   God I miss the snow, and I have no idea why my dad decided to retire from the army here.

I split when the traffic is really bad, ie not moving or doing less than 20mph.  I have passed several cops while doing it and they just looked at me and never pulled me over.  ( that was in Gwinett Co. ) if I'm in Cobb Co. I'll just sit there and wait.

Kinda sorta a funny story, my wife and I was headed to the mts on 400N and a tractor trailer jacked knifed and they are doing construction so only 2 lanes were open.  I told my wife we should just hit the shoulder ride up to the front and see if they will either a) let us pass  b) take the exit before the accident or c) if the accident was before they exit at least we would be up front.

We skipped breakfast, my idea. I thought we would head over to the mts and eat before we really got started.  But now we are sitting in traffic my wife doesn't want to ride on the shoulder or split between the cars, she's hungy I'm hungy and we are both thristy.  Finally after about 20 min I start again about the lane spliting.  Her response " if your in that much of a hurry go, I'll catch up with you later".  and she just sat on her bike side saddle like and just waited for traffic to clear up.

While she's sitting there everybody else behind is driving over the meadian to head back south, my wife wanted to do that also but I told her there was no way I was going to do that.   They were building about 4 more lanes, so there was a bout a 4' drop flat dirt then antoher 4' rise on the other side there was some packed dirt that made a ramp the workers were useing.

If i was going to somewhere I was going north twoard our destination not the otherway.  After about another 15 min of arguing I go so upset I ended up throwing my helmet across 400 and my wife was no longer talking to me so I laid down and took a nap.  Woke up about an hour later even more hungry and thirstly.  But then people started getting in their cars so we suited back up keept going.

Stoped to get something to eat, my wife was still upset / mad.  So after we ate she went home and I ended up going to mtns by myself.  But before I could go any further the guilt started setting in so I headed home instead.

Got home right before she did, we talked a bit and I appolgized.  Then I took her to her favorite resturant and everything was fine.

Dumb story but asking about the lane spliting made me remember it.

  It only snow's here once every 5 years or so.  Two snow storms ago my roommates and our GF's went to the hot tub.  It was great the water was hot but our hair was about frozen.  By the time we got back to our appartments our hair was frozen

And if we get flurries, everyone goes crazy, all the grocery stores all of a sudden are out of milk, bread and egg's  :dunno_white:  All the schools will close down, the last time it snowed I had to pick up my GF from work because she didn't want to drive in 2" of snow  :cookoo:
