UM is selling better than the Hyosungs in the US though, Our Kawi dealer in town is gonna become a UM dealer also.  I dont think that the hyosung actually distributes to the us.  Another company actually distributes and then hyosung sells the bikes.  Maybe UM distributes them?

makenzie71

Can't be selling too much better...until today I've never heard of them.  And I'm not sure what you mean about who distributes what, but Hyosung is the company that makes the bikes and sells them to everyone.

anyone remember datsun, that is what um is to hyosung

The guy at the dealer told me that hyosung isnt the distributor but someone buys from hyosung and sells to the US.

yeah?  So what was UM sellign before the Hyosung came into existance?

I saw a UM ad in a bike magazine today and thought, "That's the Hyosung cruiser thing."

Who the fark is UM?

Website shows the ONLY dealer is in Kansas.

Whoever they are, I wish them the best!   Toyota, Nissan/Datsun, Honda and Hyundai started small...

Datsun?  "Datsun" was around in 1932...  From Datson...  From DAT...  From D.A.T.

Here, you can read all about it:  http://www.datsunhistory.com/datsunhistory2.html

Oh...  You mean like, H#nda & Acura...  Or...  Toyota & Lexis...

Except that those companies are both from the same countries, owned by the same people, and the first is "economy" and the second is "luxury."

Wait...  So...

What?

This may become a big faux pax for Hyosung, since the UM bikes are just rebadged hyosung models.

The prices for Hyosung bike are actually lower than that of the UM bike, stupid.....

They charge an extra $500 dollars just for the decals???

What are they going to do about service, could you get warranty work for your hyosung at a UM dealer and vice verca.

To me it sounds like a really stupid way o get into the American market

Like how Sears sold Jawas and put their name on 'em. Also, Nisaan used the Datsun name in North America so that if the cars got poor reviews it was less likely to tarnish their name in Japan. Maybe this is something like that?

Ok you guys reeeealllllly need to maybe do a little research about this whole Datsun thing:

Datsun sold cars, all over the world, before the Nissan name even came into existance.

natedawg120

i know they did but when nissan wanted to send their stuff to the states they came as datsuns for a bit.  I just think that is what hyosung is doing.

It's like Acura, Infiniti & Lexus. You rebadge a bike to try and make it more prestigious, and maybe the people who don't know it will be more apt to like it- marketing 101.
I may be wrong, but I think most if not all Acuras are Hondas elsewhere (Maybe infiniti & Lexus also). People aren't willing to pay as much for "just" a Honda.

I've heard a few things about hyosung, specifically their SV650 knockoff. ;)

1) it is a crappier version of the sv650 with crappier parts and horrible suspension.

2) they will rust if you so much as walk past them with a glass of water.

they'll probably get better with time though

1.)  Never been on a stock SV650?  I love how people bring that up when the suspension is almost identicle in haracteristic to the SV650.  Guess what the first thing enthusiasts replace on the SV is...

2.)  Only the frame, bolts, seat clasp, tank, fairing stay, exhaust, and tires.  Comes from being a steel bike made in a 3rd world country...easy to fix though.

Oh and they are getting better, though...10 years ago Hyosung couldn't keep a Suzuki moped running.
