trying to get a project GS running - sat for at least 2 years, but only has 3k miles on it.  Seems to be running rich because it starts easily in cold weather but won't hold idle once warmed up and bogs down and stops running - even after trying to adjust the idle mixture screw under carb.  Also, carb seems to be dripping fuel onto the crank case - idle mixture screw seems saturated with fuel and it is mainly dripping off there.

I am confused because the bike has V&H exhaust, K&N, and supposedly stock jets - so how could it be running rich?!  Please help

If the float height is set way to high or the float needle isn't seating, it could cause a rich condition and fuel to overflow into the intake and cylinder.

Find where the fuel is coming from, that might help a little bit.

Turd is a good enough guru for this question.

If your carb is dripping fuel, then gunk is stopping your float valve from closing.  That will cause a rich condition and dripping fuel.  This can happen to a carb that's been sitting with fuel in it for two years.  Take it out and apart and clean it up.  Same thing happened to me on a GS that was sitting for 3 years.  Now it runs fine on one cylinder.  (I gotta take it apart and clean it better this time!)

Clean out your carbs, I had the same problem, just take the float bowls off (carefully!) and clean them out along with the floats, be VERY CAREFUL not to loose the little valve in there as it may fall out if you aren't careful (very scientific name, little piece). I guarantee the carbs are probably dirty and the fuel is just running and running into the bowls until it overflows.  Check it out..

Also, inspect the rubber o-rings around the mix screws, they may need replacing if they've been exposed to too much carb cleaner.
