After riding for 15 years on dirt and street I finally took my road test today to make it official.  Overall the testing person said I did pretty well.  Michigan does have a pretty stringent road test though.  You are allowed 10 points for mistakes but each mistake costs 4-6 points!

I touched the white line in the 5' wide 90 degree turn.(4pts)
I hit the brakes before the white line in the emergency braking test, its a little hard to judge where exactly to brake when going 20 mph and have to begin braking right at the white line.(4pts)

Good thing I didnt put my foot down in any of the turns or I could have failed.

Congrats! Does this mean you're buying a first street bike? I suggest a gs500...

You thought MI test was stringent? I took the MSF and while they allowed you "practice" runs at all parts of the testing phases it seemed more stringent than the ones done by the DMV.

My dad had to take the test because he was too late to get into a MSF course. I rode the bike up for him to test with and watched and thought it was easy. We had been up a couple times to see the course and ride it and found his concours was too big for the slalom but the GS was way easy.

I guess it skews your perspective when I did the MSF with about 100 miles under my belt and then watching the DMV with 5 months and over 5,000mi under your belt!

Pantablo, I'm already on my second 1990 GS 500.  The first one I fixed up and sold for a little profit.  I may keep this one for a while though.

If I would have practiced I think it would have been easier, the slalom was fun and didnt have any problems with the GS's twisting ability, same with the obsatcle avoidance.  Just doing the course the first time was a bit tricky.  Second time would prob be just a few or no points.  Maybe I'll run back there and take it again for fun on a day they are closed.

Heh, down here, we just have to go around the block.  If you make it back alive, you just passed the test.
