Can't they get ANYTHING right?

I've been using Progressive Direct Insurance as long as I've been riding a motorcycle, simply because they were uber cheap.  My GS costs me $130/yr for liability.  Boo ya.

A few months ago I added the Ducati to my policy with full coverage and since then, everything has been ALL EFF'ED UP.  I've talked to like 6 people on the phone (calling once a week) and they all have been SUPER nice people.  The wait times are very short, and they are very helpful.  All of them have claimed to have fixed my problem, only for me to recieve another WACK bill in the mail that makes no EFF'ING sense.

I just got off the phone with them only to find out I've been riding the GS uninsured for a month now.  I asked the lady if that was true and she said, "Well....(long pause)...yes."  She was very appologetic and ensured me that she had fixed the problem.  How the hell am I supposed to believe her?  If she's anything like her SUPERSTAR coworkers, she's not done a friggin thing to help me.

Now I'm scared to ride either of my bikes for fear I'd get hurt and Mr. and Mrs. Turd Ferguson would end up in the EFFING POOR HOUSE.

Turd,

Simply ask for it in writing.  Phone calls are notoriously untrustworthy.  Also, next time you call, get the agent's name and extension.  That way you're constantly dealing with one person.  The next time you call, ask them for a statement demonstrating that the coverage issue is fixed and that you have insurance now for both bikes.

or follow up your end of the conversation with a letter to them. shouldnt be a problem for them to issue you a letter showing coverage. thats pretty common.

Do you have an insurance agent? or do you deal with Progressive directly?

If you have an agent, you can get a printout of your insurance coverage statement.  If not, good luck. :thumb:

This is why I went to a local agent when I changed the policies up to include the gt650r.  I like having that person directly in front of me and they actually beat the price that progressive was offering me by more than 200 a year.  I also ended up insuring the cars with them and may do the house in the near future.  Lastly, just to rub it in, I had liability on the gs from progressive direct for only 82 a year :icon_rolleyes:

Yeah, but you have a house, wife and kids.  I'm a college student with minimal credit.  Most people my age are paying a few hundred more than I am, so I'm doing quite well.

Full coverage with a $250 deductable on my Ducati is $580/yr.

I pay $145/year for liability on the GS. And I'm 4 years younger. I guess I'm doing quite well too.

I was paying $208 a year for my TL when IW as 23...it has "supersport" written across the side of the bike...and it would be nearly $50 cheaper if I actually had an "M" endorsement (I'm a rebel)...

You're getting gyp'ed either way.

What you do is call back and confirm that the information is correct.  Calling progressive directly there's no chance in hell you'll get the same operator more than once.

How old are we talking about here? I am only 23 and there is only one kid at the moment. The mention of that word in the plural sort of scared me.   BTW, the rate on the duc is pretty good.  What year is it?

i have full coverge on my 05 gs with progessive and i pay 51 a month (612 a year ) on mine ... and it just went down 20 bucks this year :) i like progessive .. if they will keep droping the price i'll be happy :thumb:

Progressive is actually KNOWN for doing this...

I was with them for years with a great price.  Then I wanted to add another car.  They quoted me some great quote on the phone...  Then when my first bill showed up, it was triple what they told me it would be.  So, I left...  About a year later I realized that GMAC was a REALLY REALLY REALLY bad choice...  So, I came back to Progressive...  And the price was really low again.

So...  Who knows.   :dunno_white:

I've found that insurance quotes are more art than science...  Like...  Why would basic liability cost MORE on a '69 Bug that a '79 Jeep Wagoneer?  The bug couldn't do a quarter of the damage the Wagoneer could.   :dunno_white:

NiceGuysFinishLast

I paid $193 for liability on my '02 GS, and I'm a 20 year old, single male with a clean record.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

bugs are compacts...wagoneers are family utes...it's the classification.  It's why my 200hp 328i costs less to insure than my 130hp 1986 RX-7 SE.

As said with progressive you don't just hit up one operator.  Call up, make your alterations, then call another operator the next day and confirm.  Repeat until the information is 100% spot-on.

Liability...  Not collision... Not theft...  Just liability...

So...  JUST the damage I would do to someone else.

As another point...  Why did my Bug cost more than my Nissan Pulsar?  They're both compacts...

Again...  JUST liability.

Because statistically, the Bug apparently is more likely to be in a collision.

you're rates aren't based on the costs of "repairs" so how much damage you could do is irrellevant...the amount of damage a wagoneer can do to a Metro isn't comparable to what a bug can do to a Ferrari.  The rates are based on the classification of the car you drive.

The bug cost more than the pulsar because the bug is European and generally considered "more costly"...you can buy two or three nice pulsars for what you can get a good bug for.

Plus I think somewhere along the way the Bug got a "sport compact" classification...kinda like my Focus did after I'd owned it for a year (which up'ed my rates $125 over night)...

RVertigo

You just invalidated your own argument...  You say the cost doesn't matter, but in the next sentence say that the bug costs more...

So...  Does cost matter or not?   :icon_razz:

I know the basic answer...  It's the one you gave on the last page.  More bugs have been in more accidents...  So, they say that bugs are more likely to be in an accident than a Pulsar or a Wagoneer.  Which, in the case of my cars, was true...  My Bug was more dangerous to drive and had crashed itself twice...

Yes...  Crashed itself.  Like Christine...  It released its own parking brake, popped out of gear, rolled down a hill, and ditched itself...  The other time it ran into a tree.  Both of these occurred right after the previous owners decided to sell it...  It was like one of those crazy chicks that try to kill themselves when you tell them you want to break up. :cookoo:

I said that the value of the damage it can do is irellevent, not the value of the insured vehicle.

RVertigo

Liability doesn't cover the insured vehicle...  So, why would it matter?
