Easy Barry.  We're all friends here, there's no need to chime in and be rude.

Every study that I have seen has proven that "loud pipes" don't save lives.  At any speed over 30 mph, nearly all of the sound from a loud exhaust system is not projected forwards enough to warn pedestrians or other motorists.  Your observations may be different, I'm just reporting what I've read and what I believe.

Alllright.... well we seem to all believe in differences. But everyone who was saying loud is bad... is being just as pushy as i am. I dont care to convince anyone different but Ive seen it, heard it and experienced it. Ive stood outside and heard bikes headed towards me before i even seen them coming. Im guessing we are leaving it at ones personal opinion againnnnn. (ive always enjoyed reading heated debates on here, always had an opinion just never stated it, thought id try it out.)

Hahaha, good post.  That was pretty funny.

Yeah, I deffinately know what you mean.  I've heard many-a-bike coming down the street that is loud, so I suppose I do agree with you on the pedestrian issue for the most part.  In a car with the radio on is a different story IMO.  People don't hear jack when in their cage.

I have to agree that a louder pip does project more than a silent exhaust. People walking and animals will be alerted. Cars, well in my car with the radio or the ac on...your out of luck.
Just my opinion.
Plus loader exhaust sound cooler!   :)

if you chop your stock exhaust. The bike will run brutal... even with aftermarket filter and jets you may still not get a solid running bike.
Besides you can probably get a $100 - $200 for your stock pipe.
Why would the bike run poorly with an after market can??
Who would want to buy used stock pipes?? Ebay?

Loud pipes save lives  :bs:

I just wanted to use the bs smily  :)

If you actually read that sentence that you decided to highlight out it says: "If you chop your stock exhaust,  the bike will run brutal... even with AFTERMARKET FILTER and JETS you may still not get a solid running bike". I dont see aftermarket can anywhere there  :nono:. I go on in the rest of my post to say added an aftermarket pipe with a filter and jets will give you better results.

I just sold my stock can privately for $200......

Thats no  :bs:

Have a good one!

Barry thought you were talking about cutting off the muffler and putting on a new can. not taking the whole thing off. ??

Driving with no muffler, you sure would be heard. :thumb:

So if I get so annoyed with my neighbor's boyfriend with the Harley running straight pipes coming here in the early hours of the morning () that I shove a potato into each one of the pipes (gives a new meaning to potato-potato) causing the bike to quit running and him having to walk instead of riding such a dangerous machine, does that count as saving a life?

Luckily for his harley, they either broke up or she moved.

personally i like loud pipes but i dont think that cuttin the entire can off will help anything because the bike will lose loads of low end/you could do like me and cut the baffle out of the inside of the can which want be as loud but you will be heard and it carries a nice little tune also

Does drilling holes at the end of the muffler really work?? If so where at the end do you drill??

Egaeus

Drill the holes near the head, toward the head.  The bigger and deeper the holes, the better the sound.

Don't listen to this dude, he's got a hard on about quiet exhaust, but to each his own right?
I'm sure he'll post something about loud pipes, at night, bugging the guy next door, blah blah blah....
You drill em at the end, around the the small outlet in the muffler, there's a pic some place or a link but I'm too lazy to find it.
Shhhh, babys sleepn.

Oh, none taken! Its healthy to disagree, to a certain point.
You know we are thread jacking this topic.

Back to the point, don't take it off, mine fell off and it was insane! Didn't run correctly either. Drill the end if anything
