Im working the salesman as hard as I can to get my best price.  I have him down $800 off the MSRP now so I think its time to close the deal.

A nice blue and white ride that matches the helmet that I already have! hehe

Ive checked insurance and so far TD insurance is the best price for me.  Here in Canada and a new driver its $400ish for liability for a year.  My own insurance company wanted $700, ick.

The bike drove so smooth in the turns and the neutral was even easy to find.

How many miles does it have?  If they let you test ride it, it's not "new" anymore.  Therefore, don't let MSRP be your baseline.  Talk him down alittle more and explain that to him.  It's been my experience that dealers will not let you test ride a bike until after you're approved for financing and are certain that the bike in question is the one you want.  The test ride is nothing more than proving the bike works.  Check NADA and KBB values for the mileage.  Good luck, hope it works out.  By the way, if you've never owned a GS, it's a wonderful bike.

Let go of the jack and get the crack. Take all of that plastic shaZam! off and throw it in the dumpster.
See how pretty it is? Congrats. Can't go wrong with a GS500!
The only caveat emptor is the dealer will pump you in the buttocks! They will have you bent over the proverbial stump and their scrotum will be slapping against your keister!

In this case, it's important for YOU to be the fu_cker and not the fu_ckee!

Time for you to be Moby Root !! Enjoy!
Taxes are Good. Millions that have been on Welfare for the last 30 years are depending on you. Also Millions that are coming over the border each year are depending on YOU.

not to be a stick in the mud here, but as long as it has never been registered, is IS new.  Test drives ARE NOT to make sure the bike works, they're to ensure that the bike(or car in my case) is what you want thus making sure you don't feel like backing out of the deal 5 minutes before everyting is closed up(hell even after the deal is closed up).  Being a sales professional in the automotive industry, I'm a little "pro-dealer" on issues like these.  Mark-up on new vehicles, especially those with a MSRP of a tad over $5000, is slim at best.  You wouldn't walk into a shoe store and ask them to shave off ten bucks on the pair of shoes that you liked would you?  Same here.  Everybodies got this mentality that the dealer is out to screw you, well in some cases yes and that gives us a bad name all around, but the dealer is just out to make a living.  There's a reason why peole get back doored, it's because they cme in demanding that all the dealers profit be thrown off up front.  We have families too, we're no different than anyone else in the sense that we're only doing our jobs but the difference between us and everyone else is WE can't tell YOU what to make while you have to sit there and smile, nodding your head and acting like we're not a$$holes for treating you like that.  :cookoo: :dunno_white:

On a lighter note, hope you get the deal you want, congrats on the new bike.  It'll make you a hell of a whip.

Yeah,. the bike was used for demo days in the summer.  It only has 200ish KM's on it and its in mint shape.  I talked the salesman down another $200 yesterday so Im gonna get the machine on Tuesday.

The owner of the dealership has been pretty honest with me(I believe) and Im honest with him too.  We have been haggling on the internet for a few days but Im pretty happy with the result.  The interest rate at the dealer is 4.99% as well and thats below prime rate here so the payments are nice.

The GS will be my first street bike EVER and I havent really driven bikes since I was a kind, besides the ones when I took the safety course this summer.  I have been tooting around with my son on a Yamaha BW 50cc scooter this summer and just HAD to get a full size bike and go places.

Im very excited but it took me a bit of work on my wife to get the bike. :dunno_white:

Mind numbing acceleration, scary torque curves and most of all a great after market parts availability.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

RobTheTyrant

lol!... the acceleration IS mind numbing, but more like the lack there of.  Torque curve IS scary, compared to a tricycle and the aftermarket is available... available like the cake after a fat kids b-day party.  It's a damn fun, reliable bike though.

Question:
If you need to make a living, and if markup isn't that much, then why do sales people "deal" with their customers?

First off, I'm not trying to offend you or anyone here.  I've just been wondering this.

I work in retail.  A customer comes in and wants a product.  When they say, "$xxx is too high IMO, I'll give you $xxx-$yyy.  Do we have a deal?", Our first reaction is, "No."

Plain and simple.

Take computers for example...  Everytime we sell a computer, we seriously lose a little bit of money.  Even more when the computer isn't the newest model and the price was reduced.  There's no bargaining with anyone about price.

You want product x, so pay $y.  Again, simple.

I hate the fact that one person walking into a dealership will leave in their brand new car at one price, and another person going into the same dealership wanting the SAME EXACT CAR and options will get a different price OTD.

What is tax in Texas?  It sounds allright to me.  Tax is 8.25% here in CA, so that would not be a bad OTD price, IMO.  I used to be a m/c saleman.

Regarding the GS in College Station: is that near you?  In which case I would contact the seller and try to set up a meeting where you do not have to deal with/go thru fleabay.  Otherwise, do not buy what you cannot touch and see.

A while ago (10 years +), a vehicle was not considered used unless it had more than 10 miles on its odometer.

I paid $5999 CAD for my GS500F (the MSRP is $6799 CAD) and I love it.  The fairing is nice to help keep the wind off your legs.

I was looking for a naked at first but I think the F will be better in the long run for the cruising times.

there are always different factors in similar deals... no 2 deals are exactly the same.  There's no such thing as the "SAME EXACT CAR"... let me explain.  Two people, Mr. Smith and Mr. jones are looking at two cars with the sme MSRP.

mr Smith isn't big on dickering, knows what the car is, what it will cost and is completely willing to pay it.  He gets a no BS interest rate, his service contract isn't marked up any and he's out the door burning gas.
Mr. jones on the other hand views all car dealers as scum bags and has to hassle his salesman for three days to get down to a price he thinks is fair... now his interest rate is marked up 2.5% over retention and his service contract is tagged at about 500 bucks more than retail and they both pay a very similar price. (actually This fella ends up paying out the ass because his interest rate was boosted so high and has a worse deal at the end.)

thats just ONE factor... trade ins with negetive equity, credit scores, things like that effect every deal.  And since no two people have identical trades or credit histories, thay can't be the same deal.
