Hey

My brother was trying to install the advancer that arrived at my house from bob and ran into a prob (I'd do it but I'm kinda still in Iraq).  He says it won't seat all the way.  He says it looks like he slipped with the drill or something like that.  It doesn't exactly make sense what he's saying.  I tried to get him to be more specific.  He is still vague about it.  He says the thing just won't seat all the way down.  If I could give me advice to give him, I'd appreciate it.

Advice:  send a private message (PM) to Bob and ask him about it that way.  I don't think anyone here would want to guess what the issue is with the advance.  Your post is a little bit rude, IMO.

Bad form!  Would have been a better description.  Bob is a great guy and should have the respect from the people he helps (for free) by sending something like this, FIRST, to Bob's PM (as mentioned) and dealing with it one on one.

It seemed rude to me for someone to try to ask other people for help, without apparently speaking/contacting the person (Bob) directly that sold/modified the part, when he could probably work it out. That's all.  Kinda like ratting on someone for a "bad" ebay transaction without trying to contact the other party first.
Maybe Bob could swap it out, worst case scenario.  If he doesn't have a solution, then post here.  That's what should happen, IMO.

how is he "ratting" on someone, he was just asking for help with something.  How many people on here have bob's advancer?  asking for help in the general forum for something many people use should come with people whining that its rude.  Its a general question.  Its not like he came on here and started saying how horrible of a person bob was or that he screwed him over.  You guys are way to touchy.

so Maybe check that out.  the point of "slipped the drill"  is actuall that the hole is moved sideways a few degrees which is what actually advances the timing.  (its long to type out why) but he is just going to have to rotate the advancer while it is screwed in partially so the screws are in then while its rotated as far as it can go then tighten down the screws.

People aren't touchy here they all felt that going to Bob would have been a better choice that coming here first.  Thats all.

Actually, I don't think so. From what I understand Bob drills another hole for the keyway in the rotor, filling up the old one (and files the "wings" in the CA model), rather than slotting the holes in the plate. The results is the same, just the rotation happens in some other place.
He described his procedure in some recent post.

To me the procedure that I documented in the web page here seems better, since it is fully reversible and adjustable, but, hey, to each his own! And Bob is doing a great service with no gain to him, he only deserves praises.

I'm sorry that some of you took my post as rude, take it as you will, but that wasn't the intention.  I was simply asking for advice from somebody else who may have installed bob's advancer.  I asked Bob at the same time posted on the forum.  I dipped my hand in both for a timely response so I can tell my brother what to do and get bob my rotor as soon as possible.  The "slipped drill" comment is not of my own mouth.  That is how my brother put it.  I don't have the option of being there to install it myself.  And I am grateful to Bob for this free service he offers.  He's a saint to us who no longer can get a vance and hines advancer and aren't mechanically inclined enough to make one for ourselves.

Well said!  

I spoke to Bob and there was no problem, he tests each part he "makes" before shipping.  The tolerance is tight thats all and the advancer will suck right up tight when the bolt is tightened.

Yes it is and should be tight on the locator pin on the crank...if its loose and sloppy...welll that's rather counter productive isn't it. It did feel like it may not sit in all the way but it does under finger/hand pressure or bolt pressure. But I knew it has to be that way...
