what comes up must come down

check your oil level-bike is sensitive to slightly too little AND slightly too much oil.

also, check your clutch play/adjsutment. may need adjusting.
Check your clymers manual for how to check-I dont know how to do that.

sounds familiar, when I just bought my bike I sometimes shifted into neutral, but was still holding the clutch lever (stupid thing todo, I know   ) the thing is, when I tried to shift in the first, the shifter goes down the N light goes out, but as soon as I remove my foot it's in neutral again. If I release the clutch and then pull it and try to shift down to 1st again... no problem.

It's not really a problem once you know your bike and don't hold your clutch while in neutral   but I'd like to know how come. Btw I 've got the right amount of oil.

I do the dirtbiker stomp and sometimes take my foot off the peg to bang it in there at stoplights. Also, try rocking the bike backwards, or rolling it backwards a little bit, and then snicking it into gear. You may have to try it a few times, just don't back into somebody behind you. :)
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.
