:D ok i have a very stupid question but im going to ask it anyway...ok!! :icon_rolleyes: i like my gs500f but i was looking at katana 600 and i dont know if i should trade my gs for it next year.. I mean I like the gs but im paying the same thing for my gs as i would for a katana :bs: so i was wondering should I trade it in or keep my gs and modifi it? another stupid question are there alot of mods you can do to the gs? to make it faster too?

Thanks :thumb:

ixolas

Put some nos and a turbo kit on it..  that would make it faster!!

Egaeus

The katana isn't that much of an upgrade and it's even uglier.  Keep the GS.

The only thing that you can do to the GS that will make it significantly faster is to trade it in.  Well, actually, you can get quite a bit more out of it, but a GSXR is cheaper and will still have more HP, even after all of the mods.

Put Gixxer stickers on her. That's worth at least another 10-20 HP.  :icon_lol:

In the meantime, don't be in such a hurry to grow up, grasshoppah.... Let the GS teach you how to ride, check out the Wiki and FAQ and mod her, and then think about trading up later....  :icon_mrgreen:

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

GON - you need to calm down. A bike like the GS500 is fast enough and powerful enough for any beginner. You can out accelerate your average car and cruise on the highway at a good speed. Im quite confused by the fact that you don't seem at all apprehensive or have any respect for a motorcycle. Most motorcycles have pretty decent performance especially considering there ain't no seatbelts and saftey features. Don't worry about modding your GS or makin' it fast. Worry about gaining respect for your motorcycle - if you don't it can kill you easily. If you want to be fast then be smooth and safe. There are people on here who can outrun many bikes in twisty canyon's simply because they have experience on the bike and can corner well without being reckless. Chicks don't dig dead bikers, they prefer the living one's so theres no need to find an early grave. Take time and learn.

Well sed I have had many bikes like the Kawasaki Eliminator and the GS is a great bike and plenty fast. Hey i also have a 250 only about 80 mph. top end but man in the corners! The way i see it is you ride the bike don't let it ride you. Power is only power but skill is the key. Ride safe.  :thumb:

C'mon guys!  Everybody knows that katana's are for punks.  Get a Kawasaki ZX-14 that thing is blazin' hot!

The easiest way to make your GS faster is to use more RPMs.  I'm serious.  If you're not getting up to around 9,500 RPM on each shift, then it CAN go faster.  Most of your power is at the top of the RPM range, and if you're running around at 5K, then yes, the power is crap.  If you go buy a Katana, or even a GSXR, I think you'll find the same thing.  Even if the overall power is more, the real power is still at the top.

I ride my GS on the street, and can't complain about ANYTHING.  I'm at the speed limit in 2nd gear, and it gets to that speed damn fast.  On the track, I'm keeping up with and passing 600's and even 1000's ridden by folks that are not using their RPMs well.  I'm not telling you not to buy a faster bike, but if you learn how to ride the hell out of your GS, you'll probably enjoy it much more.  Then you'll get a lot more benefit out of a bigger bike.

Quote For Truth

The GS is my first bike also...Of course I'd like to mod it out also but I would like to ride it balls to the wall first and see what it can do. I've been riding dirtbikes and racing  mountain bikes for 14 years, only 25 years old now, and the GS is plenty fun....for now.

I'd recommend taking a few tips from the vets around here: Stay stock(for now), hit the twisties and learn how to control it, and then think about upgrading the GS before upgrading the whole bike.

No more Squids please

PS...the Katans sucks major balls in my opinion. I have more fun on my mothers 05 SV650 and her wifes 06 Ninja 650R. They both "feel" more comfortable than my best friends Katana.

PSS...Gon, how old are you?

PSSS...Vets, can we start a movement and make anything over a 500 illegal for anyone UNDER 21? Think about all the lives that would save because of IDIOTS.
There are those that have been down and there are those that will go down...which are you?
