Well, im starting my Admissions Essay for Fresno Pacific University. I basically am going to BS this paper, and its due Friday so I need to do it tonight or tomorrow night. SOOOO, I need some ideas. Basically, I need to lay out my educational goals, and why I want to go to Fresno Pacific to obtain those goals. I just need some ideas as to how to lay it out.

My actual goal in life is to own my own business, providing some kind of service to the community, or using my degree to move up in Sempra Energy (where i currently work). The main reason I want to use Fresno Pacific is because of ease, its an 18 month program for your BA. It works with my schedule, its not cheap unfortunately, but its efficient and quick.

Soooo if anyone has any idea's as to how I should lay it out or ANYTHING let me know. Thanks!

18 months for two more years of school  :o thats rockin and rollen baby :thumb:

ill give you a few suggestions for how i would go about it.
I would start out with what your final goal is, the BA.
Then go back to the beginning and talk about why you chose to go this route.
Mention an influential person in your life that helped put you on the path your now heading.

if you have writers block try this: write down everything that comes to you-stream of consciousness style, even if its an incomplete thought. dont bother punctuating or anything like that. this usually helps me get past the "blank page" writers block and gets the juices flowing...hope it helps you. Good luck!

I don't know quite what applying to uni is like over there in the states.

Here in England our applications were sent off last week. We had to write about ourselves, what we are interested in, hobbies (to show your a well rounded person) then talk about why you want to do that course, what you hope to get from it and do after you have it and also abit about what got you interesed in buisnesses. blah blah

For starters, no admissions committee ever wants to read this in an application essay, but you probably knew that already.

Why not start by reading the University's mission statement(s) and poking around the website of the department to which you are applying.  When you write about your goals, also write about how/why specific aspects of their department (course offerings, specific faculty members, facilities, etc) will help prepare you to meet these goals better than any other school (even if you don't really believe they will).

I also find it helpful to break down the 'goals' section of an application letter into short-term and long-term.

good luck!

Here's some brainstorming I did after re-reading your recent posts after joining us again. Feel free to make any ideas your own or toss the whole sappy  :bs: into a pile!  :icon_mrgreen:

This past year has been an exciting one for me.  I earned my Associate degree in Business Management, and in Liberal Arts (I couldn't decide between the two, so I hunkered down and completed both) last June. I hope to finish my education at Fresno Pacific University for my BA in Business administration. Recently, I started working for So. Cal Gas, and I'm enjoying it tremendously! I've been in training for a while now, and it struck me how close I am to PCH (Pacific Coast Highway). I was missing the familiarity of my home, family, and friends when the idea of visiting PCH came to mind. PCH is meaningful to me because, as an avid motorcycle enthusiast, I know that I have many brothers and sisters closeby! I've heard stories about how beautiful PCH is, but until now, I've not been able to visit in person. Suddenly, not only am I able to visit this beautiful highway and hopefully ride along the ocean, but I'm also able to meet some of the people who've been telling me about it for years! What had been looking as though my training time would consist of a few rather dreary weeks has suddenly a new, exciting adventure.

I believe that completing (furthering?) my education at Fresno Pacific University will turn out to be another exciting chapter in what's been an amazing year. As I was looking through the online catalog, it struck me (blah blah blah...what DID strike you.....forget the convenience, etc.....SOMETHING about the program must have drawn you....if you hated the program, you'd likely not bother with the school!)....

goals... owning business? what kind (if you know yet)?

Talk of how you think Fresno Pacific University will help fulfill those goals....

Conclusion...
I've experienced so many firsts this year: earned my first degree, went skydiving for the first time, found a job that has excellent career prospects, and discovered new friends and new places to explore while training for my new job. I also lived through another first: I recovered from an accident, but I consider this accident to have been yet another way of learning about myself and my goals in life. I found that during recovery, I was able to really reflect on what I wanted to do and where I wanted to be in five years. I wouldn't recommend having an accident as a way of growing and maturing, but I certainly recommend taking advantage of whatever opportunities for growth are thrown my way!
