Motorcycle hand wave to scooters?

Ok so when I drive around on my bike and see others on their bike I always give the left hand down peace sign.  But driving home the other day I see this kid on one of those little scooters you get for like $50 or something, struggling to keep up with the 35mph traffic as cars go around him.  I knew what was coming and was thinking of what I should do when he did it: the motorcycle peace sign.  Now I didn't want to be a jerk but thats not a motorcycle.. its a motorized scooter; I mean my lawnmower probably has that much hp.
I raised my hand and gave him a piece sign instead of putting it down, but even that made me felt dirty immediately afterwards..
I guess I should be cool to them too but.. its like bringing a pocket knife to a swords show and thinking your cool too.

So what do you guys do?

my rule of thumb is that if they have a helmate on i will wave no matter what they are riding.  I don't discriminate

I still wave to everyone on anything with two wheels.

jazerr

werd, me too. I figure, on two wheels, they can get killed just as easily as me. They get my respect.

Stupid hurts. Dress for the crash, not for the ride.

I wave to scooters and even Harleys.  However, I don't wave to those little pocket bike thingys.  They shouldn't be on the road in the first place.   ;)  :flipoff:

I don't tend to wave to scooters unless their rider is an older person simply using it as a fantastic commuting device. Things comes about because 99% of all the people around where i live simply have scooters and do stupid shaZam! all the time on them coz' ther not yet old enough to get an R1. Basically they are all squids who don't give a shaZam! if you wave to them or not. If i waved they would prolly pull U turn and think i was dis' rispectin' em! init!

I thought the head nod was more popular than the wave across the pond anyways?  :icon_mrgreen:

Well yes i tend to use "the nod" more often than the wave. I often reserve the wave for curtious car drivers (you gotta be nice to the good 'uns)

Absolutely. I'll add that I wave not only to pretty much everyone on two wheels, but most definitely to our four-wheeled friends who act kindly and don't try to kill me!  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Ditto. I tried it three times, and just got stared at, so I don't initiate it any more. I've yet to see one of them initiate it. Just like the motorcycle cops, and guys on expensive shiney Harleys, they seem insulted by it.

I'm thinking that the folks on scooters don't know about the wave.... I certainly didn't know about the wave before I started riding. When I received my very first wave, I felt like a *REAL* biker.....ya' couldn't pry the grin off my face with a crowbar....  :icon_lol:

Most people who ride scooters aren't motorcyclists.  They don't get it, and don't care that they don't get it.  I'll wave when one of them waves at me, but I've yet to see it.

I once got a wave from a CHP cop.  However there was another rider a little behind me and he didn't wave back.  Probably too busy watching his speedo at the time!

Ah, and normally the few scooters that I've come across don't wave back, nor do most Harley drivers.  :dunno_white:

I guess you two just don't project my charm.... I rarely have a CHP moto occifer NOT wave at me!  :flipoff: I guess those who are grumpy get the bah humbug grumpiness right back. :P

I usually nod to all two wheelers - there are not enough of us to start discriminating. I usually find only a small proportion of scooter kids nod back, some Harley and big cruiser types don't either but they do when I'm on my old yammy with it's higher bars.

Cops around here usually give the nod, they often drop into the same cafes and roadside stops as other bikers, they also stay away from H's Cafe on Wednesday nights in the summer which is perhaps a blessing and a masterpiece of diplomacy.

As we get into winter the percentage reply to nod/wave gets a lot higher, something to do with mutual respect i suppose.
