Oil changed and the idle tapping went away.

I've been hearing intermitant tapping on my '04 GS at idle.  It only has 3K miles on it (2500 put on since I bought it in June) and I thought the valves were out of spec.  I took it to a shop to get checked out and they changed the oil and checked the clearances.  They said everything was in spec and I haven't heard any tapping in the last 200 miles.

I had the 600 mile service done which included an oil change when I bought the bike.... so the oil wasn't THAT old.  Any ideas what could have caused the tapping and why it went away?

Thanks,

Mike

It'll come back.

It's a "flaw" in our GS's.

The dealer has a fix for it...  It's the cam shaft "walking" back and forth.  According to Suzuki, it's harmless, but is sure is annoying.

Or, you were low on oil.

When was the last time you checked your oil level, with the bike on the centerstand?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Oil level was fine.  I check it everytime I fill up with gas.
