Im looking at getting my first bike boots (Im still only in sneaker/hikers).

What would you guys suggest that I wont have to sell my son into slavery to pay for? 

Im also in need of pants but maybe just plain leather pants will do the job there.  I imagine chaps look goofy as hell with a GS style bike.

For boots that are not expensive try the alpinestars.  For pants it's all up to you, plan on draggin a knee at some point?  Get leathers with the patch for sliders.  If your just going to be cruising on the GS I would go with textile.

I'd try Teknik (sp?) or Fieldsheer if you're looking for budget gear. You get what you pay for, but I'd take cheap gear over sneakers any day.

And, though I can't say anything bad about Icon from personal experience, I'd rather buy my gear from a racing-derived manufacturer. Again, not to single anybody out, but that equates to pretty much any armored name brand except for Icon. Just sayin'.

I think it all depends on what you plan on doing with them.  I know this probably isn't what your looking for but I basically just drive my bike for fun, not racing (at least not yet).  I just bought a pair of snowboard pants for $30 and then bought some pads for 30 then had a seamstress sow an internal pockets for the pads for $10.  There super warm (even in sub 20 weather), waterproof, zippered pockets, and when I go skiing I just take out the pads.   
But if you plan on doing any racing then I would get leathers.

Feildsheer is my weapon of choice.  Get textile and leather pants.  If you're not draggin knee yet get textile.  Get leather before you start draggin.  You'll do it eventually.  For boots, I use Joe Rocket GPX.  If you wear a size 12 or smaller US, you can order these on ebay for around $100.  They look decent.  I haven't crash tested them yet.  They are durable.

Trying to get a BEARING jacket to be shipped from France but them french sure dont like exporting their stuff..

One jacket I really want to get is the Joe Rocket Super Ego.  The outer is full leather, but when you want to you can remove the leather and it's a mesh jacket underneath.  But still has leather on the impact areas.  Elbow's , shoulders.

Dennis Kirk has been good on refunds if something doesn't fit or you just don't like it. You do have to pay the return shipping though.

Go to a local motorcycle accessory shop (look in the phone book under Motorcycle), try stuff on, go home, and order the size that fits.  See if there's a Cycle Gear near ya.

Fieldsheer Carbolex overpants, 500 denier (the higher the Denier, the more stitches per inch, the more abrasion resistance), $50.  Add, motocross kneepads.

Boots (in order of preference): Sidi, Alpinestar, and then everybody else.

If your going with a textile pant or something other than leather, try looking up freestyle motocross pants. They will fit over top of any boot or shoe and fit well with the GS or sport style bikes. Get a nice black or blue pair with not to much other colours or design. Ive hit dirt, stones, sand, mud, concrete with my motocross and freestyle pants while riding dirtbikes and i havent tore a pair yet. I wear black "shift" freestyle pants on the GS. There baggy enough to fit extra layers underneathe but not unsafe baggy where your going to get caught on stuff.
