I'm considering the standard hop-up: Vance&Hines pipe, K&N clamp-on, re-jet...  I've rejetted once from the standard set up, and was very happy that my bike ran better for such a small investment.  This, however, is about a $400 investment if my rusty math serves me well.  I've read I'll gain about 10hp, and I've listened to the sound bytes and know it'll finally sound like a real twin, but I have no real feel of whether or not it's worth it.  I wanna get an SV650 someday, but still a few years out of financial range, and I love everything about my GS, except I wanna go faster!!!  Check that, I don't necessarily wanna go faste :nono:r, I wanna accelerate :icon_razz: faster.  Did you do it???  Is it worth it????? :dunno_white:

PS I haven't been on the site in a while... Is this message board different??  I dig it O0

If you just want better acceleration, drop a tooth (or possibly 2) on the front sprocket. New sprocket will only cost you $15 or so plus shipping from sprocket specialists, and be more effective, and much cheaper. If you don't like it, sell it to recoup your money, and then do the exhaust/rejet/etc

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Oh...sorry.  I already dropped a tooth.  Can I drop two without affecting my chain? Was considering that along with the other mods...  I need a new chain anyway...and tires... and probably brakes, soon... and need to gap my valves... and paint...  and progressive springs.. sorry, was I ranting?  I still love my little black banshee...

and that's supposed to be "....go faster  :nono: , but..."

10 HP?  Doubtful.  Maybe 10% *more* HP, but there's not an exhaust in the world that can increase horsepower by 25%.

Ah hah!!!  I think you may have called my bluff...  10% sounds like what I heard...  Or maybe it's just rusty math...  That's why it's taking me 11 years to get my EE Degree!!!! :icon_lol:
Thanks for the editing!!

I just didn't want you to be disappointed when you spent that money and were underwhelmed.  As far as it being worth it, not for me.  I like the quiet stock can, and I don't like the GS enough to spend too much more money on it.

Thanks alpahfire for the point to the sprocket link... I'll probably do a 14t at some point, but still don't know how that affects chain lenght, even after reading the thread....  less adjustment means shorter life when it starts stretching??...

if you've already done the -1 front then do a +2 rear as well...nearly the same without the issues of the small 14t front sprocket.

also, I'd keep your cash outlay to a minimum since you're upgrading (even if its a couple years)...why spend the money-the gs will never run as fast as bigger bikes so why spend that cash? Thats at least 2 trackdays! THAT will make you faster...

I think I'll hold off and wait on the pipe.  Can I get the K&N clamp-on and re-jet without changing the pipe??  Also, will definitely consider changing the rear sprocket...I didn't think of that one.  I'll be first in line when the finally make a black SV... Who the hell wants a red bike?  Might as well get a sticker that says "I've got a small schwinger!!!"  Yellow, maybe...  Turquiose, what the F#*K?? :dunno_white:
Thanks for good advice from a great site, y'all...

PS  What the hell is a "track day"?  All the roads around here are twisty and FREE!!!!!!!!!

Think twice about getting a pipe and rejetting with a k and n filter. It makes a HUGE change! Way better power, smoother. If your on a budget, leave the pipe and keep your eyes peeled for just a slipon. The full system doesn't flow that much more, its just not worth it. I've put on a wilyeco, k and n and rejetted it foe under 250bucks.
Ya just gotta search out the parts. Best of luck, this site is packed full of info!
If it comes out of your body you shouldn't be afraid to hold it in your hand! :o

jardine makes a nice pipe just put it on my bike look sounds great. havent rode it much with it  but a simple test run  i deff  more power when you hit the throttel it was 350 plus shipping
