I dig the tunes... much better than your average cycle vid. :P looks like fun ride. Are the tar scars sketch on the curves or what? Those kind of cracks in pavement are unique to SoCal I think.

I'm moving to LA in a year, do you think moto-only is doable?

TragicImage

Moto Only is do-able... but difficult at times.  Its not all sunshine and warm weather.

Uhm, that road was in kinda poopy condition because of alot of Anti-Skid Pebbles that the local Cal-Trans department spews over the entire road. And the guy in front of me... I had never ridden with before and he was sorta creepin me out with some of the things he was doin.

I dont ride with them much (although I enjoy riding with Ryan)-too many unknown people and usually a larger group (of unknowns) than I care to ride with.

Nice video. I prefer seeing moto videos with the faint sound of the bike in the background with the music over it. Seems odd otherwise, but thats just me. Also, you need to work on your lines a bit-too many mid-turn corrections. I miss ACH/AFH. I may have to hit it up after I get the bike back on the road...

yea, I wanted to have the bike in the background but my editing skills were lacking, and it was a bit of a rush job.

and yes... +9 on the too many mid-turn corrections.... I've been trying to work on it lately but seem to not make alot of progress unless thats all I focus on...  But at least I realize I need to fix it.

wow, a video with people actually going at what seems like safe speeds...not trying to max out the speedo.

looks like a nice route.

only because you can't see the lead riders...I've ridden with the leader, Ryan (he's also on a 600rr and races)...you can only imagine the lunacy.

Great route-one of my all-time favorites.

how long of a ride is that from say hollywood out to your turnaround point? Looks quite long on google maps.

definitely. start from Big Tujunga in Sunland instead of ACH proper-much better route. Take that to Angeles Forest Highway (L), then straight out to the "tree"...cant miss it. All said its about 35-45 miles one way from the bottom. If you went up Angeles Crest Highway (ACH) from the bottom to the Newcombs ranch  is 27 miles one way.

from hollywood you can probably get across Los Feliz to the 5 fwy, take it south to the 2 fwy north, ends at the 210, take that east (south?) and get off at immediate first exit, which is Angeles Crest Highway. Shell station across your right is common meeting place. Conversely, you could take the 210 west (north?) get off at Sunland blvd, right. At Oro Vista turn left and that turns into Big tujunga. fuel up before Big T...

(edit: forgot, you're probably 20-25 minutes away, maybe less depending how quickly you can get to the freeway).

Awesome directions.

I'm about 16 hours away from the ACH by GS500, but in a year's time if Allah is willing I will be there to take those curves.

ryusan

Nice.  What cam mount are you using and where did you get it?

TragicImage

Powerstand camera mount...

And I'll never reccomend the people I got it from... it was some company on eBay... however they do have the best prices.

Tell them they have shitty customer service when you pick it up from them....  They charged me shipping when I picked the item up, and left me negative feedback because I was unhappy about it.

You could also try out Barna's Camera Mount, which is cheaper.. and it sounds like he's a lot nicer to deal with.  Nothing fancy, but it does the job well.  I went over to his house to pick up mine, and he didn't charge me anything extra but he did make me listen to his trans-Canada solo ride.  Can't say I was disappointed with the mount or the story.

If for some reason he doesn't have a gs500 mount fabricated, I could convince a friend to take the bike to him to have him measure it.

TragicImage

I'll see if I can take a picture to give you a better idea, but I think the lens has to be at least 10-14 inches above the tank. its rediculous, or else you're just staring at your gauges.  I have a mount like the one you showed, it worked for shat.

Barna also sells angle adjustable camera mounts, but that wouldn't give the same perspective as raising the camera base by 10-14 inches.  Do you really need the camera that high off the tank for a decent shot?  I have a fixed mount, maybe 3-4 inches off the tank on my CBR, and the picture is pretty good.  It does show the speedo/tach, but the shot through the windshield is still reasonable.

TragicImage

14 was a bit off, I just went and measured.

5 1/2 inches up was the camera mount itself, another 4 1/2 inches was the camera to the center of the lense.  10 inches up above the tank.... its mainly to get up above the instrument cluster.

The music is good. I thought for a second that my music was playing because I always play Atmosphere. Thats the artist, he local to Minneapolis here so its good that people listen to his music outside of MN
