Is there a good resource online for finding out what generations of gsx-r are out there, and what years they fall into?

I ask because I'm thinking about moving up to a gix six after another year of riding the GS, and I'd like to know more about the various generations and their quirks, etc.

I'm a big fan of the old dual headlight bikes, and I know the 1992-1993 GSX-R600 had them, anyone know what generation this was?

Visit the gixxer.com message board, I think they have seperate sections for each gen, including the years that gen covers.

I think only the first and maybe second versions of the GSXR had the dual round headlights. 87-89.

OK generations of GSXR can best be determined by the 750...the 1100 was just the 750 with some delays...and the 600 was too sporadic to be of any use...85-87 GSXR 750 and 85-88 1100 were generation 1. generation 2 was 88-90 on the 750 and 89 through 92 on the 1100. Now First gen is the ones where the tail was a bit boxy looking and had the frame with some embossed tracks in it...the frame also came lower than the next gen. The second generation GSXR had a frame that was smooth and had the top spar go near horizontal till where it made a sharl down ward bend to back of air box. Both were air cooled.
Third gen GSXR got USD forks and were water cooled.
Cool.

You can also try the FZR 600's if you like the dual round headlight style

I personally wouldn't buy a model older than 2000.  Earlier models had no punch at low rpm.
There is more to this site than a message board.  Check out http://www.gstwin.com

Older Honda CBR's were the dual headlight like that too. I think all the supersports went thru the dual headlight phase. It seems if one bike does it the others will too except maybe one to show they are different. Kinda like how Suzuki is going to the single one in the front to be different than the dual of the Yamaha and Honda etc. I like the dual look also so I just got dual lights for my GS rather than getting an older sportbike.

first gen (or second gen) gixxers are my favorites...

There's a member, a woman, who had a site in her sig that was a history of the gixxer...I wish I had saved it. Can't remember who that was anymore.

otherwise, try http://oldskoolsuzuki.info/ or http://www.tidepool.com/%7Etetrault/Home.htm in addition to the great site: gixxer.com
