:? simple question here, i read on this forum mostly, about the gs using its fair share of oil. heres my sit. in march, i had changed the oil, topped off to correct level, my bike ('97 w/ 4019 miles), has yet to use oil. ive put close to 800 miles since the change. not much mind you, but when i ride it i usually ride it pretty hard. if this oil usage is supposed to happen, when usually, and under what circumstances just curious. thanks...

Mine is a 96 with 7500 miles and I use about 1/2 a quart every 1500 miles. I'll be checking it a bit more often now just to make sure its not doing more. I use 10w40 M1 motorcycle oil and drive about 1k a month and most of that is to and from work on the interstate at 70-80mph for about 30-35min each way.

at 6K my 90 was just strating to use oil when I sold it, at 8K my 89 was using 1/2 qt in 3K, by 15K it was up to a qt in 3K, at 20K it was 2 qts in 3000, 25K was a qt in 1000, 30K a qt in 600, 35K-40K a quart in 300...wiht 60wt it was a qt in 500, with 2qts lucas stabiliser and 1 qt oil in 750 miles so far it seems to have used much less. Not sure how much less but less none the less...Yea Werase its not leaking a quart in 300 miles and not leaveing a puddle under it...what do we have now magic oil that eavporates before htting the ground...

I have owned two suzuki GS twins.  A 1980 GS450 that I put 17,000+ miles on - never needed oil between changes except on a trip from Madison to Ft. Meyers Beach just after it was broken in.  My 2001 GS has needed oil between changes only once - on a 300 mile day will temperatures near 100 degrees F. when it had about 2000 miles on it.  I am at 10,000 (OK, 9788) now.  I do tend to change oil at 3000 mile intervals after break in.

I don't have many miles on my 02, around 1500...if I don't run high speeds I don't lose any, but if I run hard and I am topped off I will lose some.
If I keep it a half way between topped and add I don't lose any.
Cheers!
