Hello yall,

I got a general question. Im going on a short tour this spring and I was wondering, If I bought a windscreen for my 91 GS500E would it really be that more comfortable and how big of a windscreen usually does the trick. Furthermore, what are some companies that sell fairings for the GS500E in case I decide to go that route. Thas all! :thumb:

Here's some info to start you out:  http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Upgrades/Windshields

Here's a pic of the "OEM" front 1/4 fairing:

The OEM one is hard to find...  I only use it in the rain.  When I'm on the highway, the rain moves up from the button to the nips...

I can kinda hide behind it, but my chin has to be nearly on the tank.

I put a National cycle F 16 windscreen on my bike and it has made a huge difference in ridability. I can't imagine going very far without it. I posted a picture on this thread:

Pictures aren't great, and I'm waiting for better weather to take more.

Also, considerably cheaper than any of the fairings, easy ti install and remove!

I also have the F-16. I put it on for long interstate rides, but prefer the looks of the bike without it when I'll just be doing in town/short interstate rides. It makes a big difference for me on the interstate, although, I kinda like being able to sit up and have the wind hit me in the chest, takes some pressure off my back/abs for awhile.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

It makes a world of difference for highway travel to have at least a small shield to take the wind load off your chest.  I've been using the Slipstreamer Spitfire in the summer and it's comfortable for me for a 70-80 mph indicated 400 mile day down the interstate to the mountains.  Not as much protection as the Plexi 2 in heavy rain though.

I put the plexi 2 on for the winter and on thru the spring rains.  I ride year round here in NE Ohio.  Those are pics of my shields on the black and silver 02 GS in RVertigo's link:

You can find those and the F-16 and others here:

I've bought NC shields from Chaparral and MAW over the years:

Here's a nice looking small deflector shield on a Venezuelian GS500, anyone recognize it?  Should be enough for sunny summer use on the road, but probably not available here anyway.
