I'm thinking about buying these and figuring out some way to disassemble them to put just the speakers/battery/receiver inside my helmet, without the neckband. I want them because I don't want to drop $70-$150 on a pair of nice etymotic headphones (which supposedly stay in your ears, unlike most earbud headphones). Also, I had a pair of speakers that I made for myself inside my helmet, and they sounded ok, but having the cord sticking out was a pain in the butt. I'm thinking something cheap and small like these speakers could easily be disassembled and tucked inside of the helmet. That way I don't have to worry about taking them out on rides when I'm not listening to music, nor do I have an extra cord to worry about. It'd be easy enough to leave the charger port accessible, so I could just leave them in the helmet all the time, and just plug them in at night.

Thoughts from anyone?

What about the wiring between the speakers?  Would there be ample length to tuck under the liner in the helmet and be in the right spots for you to hear?

Ehh, I'd planned on cutting and splicing in some extra length anyway. The only other option I can think of is to run the wire across the top of the helmet, since that seems a shorter route than going around the back of the helmet.

I took apart a pair of headphones similar to those...  But, I didn't mount them in the helmet 'cause my friends bought me a different setup.

If you could get all the required guts out and make a small cloth cover to wrap around them (to keep them contained and not pokey), then put velcro on the back (the hook side) and the matching (loop) piece on the inside of the helmet in the ear holes..........

That might just work.

Then you could remove/reposition them if you needed.

OK I been looking for somehting like this. I want to be able to watch TV while kid is asleep ... cant have volume out the speakers. I am thinking I'll plug the unit in and use head phones. You think it will work ... anyone ... starwalt

Just get a normal RF version... you don't need bluetooth for a home setup.

Ordinarily, I'd agree with Destro.. however, the regular RF ones often cost as much if not more than these bluetooth ones. Although, if you go RF, you can get much cushier/more responsive headphones. Check bestbuy.com, or even just ebay for "wireless headphones"

RF crap is that digital. Cos non digital sheite uses FM and every freaking 2 bit radio station comes through as static ... Show me somehting that will give me digital quality for under this price ... and I'll buy it.
BTW I'd put it on the seat next to me or my chest ... not always my head.

Agreed and I am not certain the range is that great.

From what I've read, in terms of range, RF>bluetooth

but for going from my pocket to my helmet, I think it's ok.

If you want to actually inhance the music listening experience, buy these.

I picked up a pair last week.  They work great.  There's nothing I hate more than an earbud half hanging out my ear while I'm riding.  These stay put, and sound great.  I'm basically deaf, so I went with these to help preserve what little hearing I have left.  The fact that they cancel out so some ambient noise makes it possible for me to listen to my music at lower volumes.  No need to crank it up full blast to compensate for wind/engine noise.  They come with a neck strap that leaves plenty of slack for you to turn your head left to right without the bud poping out.  I run my chord through my jacket and put my ipod in my left trouser pocket.  These are a great alternative to static helmet headphones.

I sure hope that the specs for those Philips phones just have a mistake in them, but they state:
Frequency Responce: 50Hz - 1.5kHz

If it was really 1.5kHz, the sound would sound like from a bucket.

In the the origional post the author mentioned the in-ear-monitor (IEM) type headphones made by Etymotics Research. No other IEM headphone beats Etys. They are the best. They were  in the business of hearing aid for a long time and know what they are doing. Personaly, I am using iM716 headpohones that are branded by Altec, but designed and produced by Etymotics.

Nobody gonna mention that it is illegal in most states to ride w/ a headset on?? Its only legal to have it in one ear here in PA. 

In GA, it's illegal to have speakers that are used for anything other than communication devices (i.e., FRS or cellphone). Earphones are flat out illegal. However, my theory is that I can hear more road noise over my music than I can when I wear earplugs. Besides, if they're wireless, how's the cop gonna notice them, or be able to prove that they were on at the time? If worse comes to worst, I'll pay the fine, it's a risk I'm willing to accept.

You could probably repackage them into the helmet, but they depend on proximity to your ear for best operation...thus the neck band.

Sure, why not? If you are within 15 feet of the set it should be fine. Do you have a headphone jack on the TV?

Bluetooth is encoded data at a certain frequency....I don't know if the headphones are using real Bluetooth or just the frequency of BT and using FM as the modulation.

And yes, that BestBuy add is goofed up. Should be 50Hz to 15 kHz.
