Is there any way to get a carb rebuild kit for 2001 model without going through the dealer? I searched and only found someone advising a metric o ring set. has anyone tryed this and it worked?

I just did my carbs, and don't remember where that goes... I taped all my hoses and labeled them.. made it easy to put her back together..

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Dude that is vacuum line. You swap the cap and run yoru stock vaccum line to the fitting on the left carb. Your 98's vacuum line will not reach the right carb I think.
Yea sorry for the slow reply.
Cool.

Yes, it is what is referred to as the manifold vacuum port, and do as sinrath suggested and run you petcock vacuum line to one of the ports. And you the cap on the other side. While you have it off, goto to your local autoparts store and find some vacuum caps about that size and replace that one. Even though it make look fine, it can crack and start to leak, then your bike will run lean since un-metered air is entering the chamber(which means no gas mixed with it)
