ok so for some reason my hook up on by passing the MSF cert. at the base has fallin through after all these years. even though I took the DMV test which is said to be just like the MSF course final test I still have to have a certificate to ride on the new base my base is moving to. im sure the course will be good to take but its a pain in my ass trying to work this around my schedual now and the fact that it cost money for somthing I already know how to do , RIDE!

If you can get into a subsidized course, about $100.  If you can't, more like $250.  Well worth it.

Price can vary widely depending on state.  At least around here, the bigger concern is getting into a class

In Cali, I think it was about $200 for adults.

Suck it up and take the MSF! It's a great learning experience!  

Might be a good idea to take the advanced course... use your own bike, save some dough, skip the basics

My father had been riding for about 40 years when he took the MSF course with me. He learned a few things, too.

Does the ERC give you the same license waiving thingy majigger (technical term, I know ) as the brc?

Its FREE in PA

the basic course is geared towards people who have never ridden a motorcycle before. I took it after 1 1/2 years of riding, and came out of it with little to no "new" information. Wasnt worth the $275 or so I paid, basically just to get a license. My own fault.

I had about 7k miles under my belt & figured I'd take the basic course so I wouldnt "miss anything". it was a mistake.

in MA anyways, the advanced course is for riders w/ 2k+ miles under their belt.

in MA it is the exact same, but $175 as opposed to $275

thanks for the info ! im going to check into it. maybe there is a program for the airforce that I can go through and get it done.  they are super strict on the active duty bases, I have to wear that orange vest ... ICK! lol

but im hoping I will learn somthing in this class and im sure I will.

Illinois has a sweet free program which uses the MSF methods and books, and they offer tons of classes. But I suppose most people aren't so lucky 

do you have to ware that orange vest off base ?  if not your lucky .. they guys down here in FortHood,tx  have to have the MSF  then they have to go on base and take one just to get there little card they have .. if your in the Army you have to not only have the  the vest on . on base .. but you also have to have it off base .. if you get cought with out it ... ohhhh boy .. you get it ! .. and they have to have there helment . ( Texas has a no helment law with a few if's in it )

hey one of my best friends in in FT hood. well iraq right now but the hood is his home station. um once we are off the base the vest does not have to be worn and civilian rules apply once again. VA has a 100% helmate law so thats no different here. I have to check into i tbut I might have to take a class on a base, and that means I would have to go to an active base. FT Lee is the closest active base to me which is only 30 mins away , not so bad.  The military somtimes over exagurates safety!  I mean im surprised you dont have to wear an orange vest to drive your car and I think if I have to on a motorcycle that everyone else should have to in thier stupid car! haha

I think there's a military discount for the msf course.  I know I had to pay $250 for my wife and I but my dad took it later for free.
