so I took apart my exhuast completely yesterday, I guess the previous owner took the packing out of the can, would make since on why its so loud. anyways my aluminum sleeve (can) was scratched up bad from 3 lay downs, so I decided to make a new one. Then I got to thinking, why do it out of aluminum when I have access to other metals? I just so happen to have a c715 copper/nickle alloy lying around which was 3.5" OD but a little to large on the ID, so I am turning down the ID as we speek in the lathe to slip on the V&H steel pipe. the c715 is used alot in marine applications where high corrosion resitance is needed and were SS might crack at points. this stuff shines mirror finish! just like the V&H was rivited to the can I will be riviting a polished brass label on the can after milling some custom letters in it ;). the rest of the exhuast is being sand blasted and painted . I am also making a shorty adapter which will fit up much like the V&H pipe does where the springs hold it in place. it will be for when I dont feel like having a big old muffler on the back of the bike and will cut off straight under the bike.

here are some crappy pics

more pics to come.

Im still deciding whether or not to repack the can or not, either way it will be easy to pull out and repack at any point.

anyone know where I can get the packing?

Common sense in not very common.

ohgood

Cool mods you've got involved in there.

I'm actually more interested in the shop though. It's too clean. Either it's a fantastic personal playpen, or you're lucky enough to have access to a nice educational facility.

Either way, you should have some clamps hangin from the table, and some rust somewhere. Or at least a shop rat (dog to you non mechanical types). :)

Head down to your local MC shop, packing is cheap.

thats messy compared to the race shops i'm used to working in... I can't stand working in a messy shop anymore, it drives me crazy. And yet, my room is the exact opposite.

wait till you see the good pics. the floor you can eat off of. Every day at the end of work we clean the shop spotless!  thats the way the airforce must have it lol . after I get done with my duties I have free time on my hands to train so I design stuff or fabricate things and write it off as training, which it is! well I finished the project I just have to weld a bracket on it , tomorrow I am doing that .   it looks really good , a little more heavy than the stock aluminum but oh well.  I cant wait to run it and watch the metal change colors :).

here is a picture of the steel erection company I work for which im leaving because I hate it lol.

lol. well I got the exhuast all painted and everything Im just trying to locate the bracket on the pipe for the right placeso I will be fitting it on the bike tonight and tack weld the bracket in place to fit it up right. the lessons you learn while fabricating. I should have marked all that properly in the first place so I wouldnt have to fit it while on the bike.
