wow its been a while.

OK can you explain this to me,

last fall ....no fall befor last i put a new battery in. let it set all winter, and of course had to charge it last spring.  ran fine throu the season till bout mid Aug.  by Oct. battery was shot i mean compleatly. trickle charge 2 days, test it and watch the volts drop. DEAD.
so i got a new batery all nice and fully charged put it in and the bike lit up better than ever.....(well better than ever beeing like normal)
with in 2 weeks dead again. ***both the first time it went dead and this time when i jumped it, it blew out the high beam in my head light.....? wtf   when i took the jumper cables off i may have pulled the - neautral- off first seeing as i quickly grabed both at the same time but still.

so i'm guessing/hopeing its a bad ground.right?
i dont know if it is trying to charge it's self or not so would runing it then discinecting the battery every time.....i dont even want to do that.

Guess what i am asking for is advice on where to start.
thanks. :thumb:

P.S. make me an offer around a 1,000 bucks and it yours once it's running again

Hey Quinn bozz ... welcome back ...
BTW SC has no helmut rule ... as in, if your name is helmut you rule ... but like that's helmut rule so its like you dont rule.
Anyway want to drag it over to my place we can trouble shoot it. I believe you may have a bad case of goats ...
Cool.

The goats problem is somewhat easy to identify in some cases. Unhook the 3 leads off the alternator and look for resistance between each of those, and check for continuity to ground. It should be open to ground and have the same resistance between them 3. Shorts to ground are almost inevitable with goats, turn over the motor a few times and check in different spots of the crank for good measure. Also oil will have lacquer and magnetic black bits in case of bad goats. Filter screen will have the magnets sticking to it also.
Cool.

Were you connected to the battery when jumping or somewhere else?

Goats?  Maybe if you got the stuff Srinath mentions.

I'm in the Upstate of SC. Farther than the Queen City where the Goat's Guru lives.

Sounds to me like no rectification/regulation of the generator output.

The RR is the item near the relays on the right side of the bike. Large heatsink. It has the rectifier diodes and voltage regulator in one unit.

As Starwalt said......the regulator/rectifier is toast. Its letting more than 12v into the bikes electrical system. This is what is poping the bulb. Question is what has taken out the R/R? you could well have a dodgy generator as well.
