No GS500 in '03 here in the states

GS500F - any '04+

They might be GS500FK4 GS500FK5, etc but I don't think so. The KX just designates year.

for all '01+.  For 89-00 it was GS500E*, where the * is a letter that represents the year.  So...

1989 GS500EK
1990 GS500EL
1991 GS500EM
and so on...

In fact all of the Suzuki lineup (in recent years anyway) has had that * letter on the end of the model number to designate the year, ie. 1991 GSXR750M and 1991 VX800M Maurader.  Probably more info than you wanted to know, but I was confirming my thoughts as much as trying to help.

this is correct, they do use a year designator on the Fs
