That doesn't make him a better rider. Try it for your self go to parking lot try braking only with rear brake and then only with front. I bet you will notice the difference, also try locking your rear, just be sure to hold your bike straight up. If you are vertical, locking rear wont do any trouble. It is better to accommodate yourself to rear wheel locking under controlled conditions rather in tricky situation.

Also notice that rear will lock up much faster if you are using the front brake.

The MSF course said to use both brakes. Which makes sense, but I have a old timer HA buddie who swears the front brake is useless.

isnt the difference between wearing a helmet you die at the scene of the crash without a helmet or on the way to the hospital with the helmet (heard that from friends dad who doesnt like bikes)

helmets save lifes. maybe not all of them. but they do.

Egaeus

No, it's more like this (real story):

It's night, you're wearing a helmet, you lowside, the helmet hits the ground, you get up, pick up your bike, and you're on your way, pissed about the damage to your bike and helmet.

It's night, you're not wearing a helmet, you lowside, your head hits the ground, you get knocked out, and while unconscious, you're run over and killed.

If you think you don't need a helmet. You probably don't.

Half a helmet is plenty if you've got no brain.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I was riding yesterday and a squid pulled up next to me at a light with no gear on a NEW 650Ninja.  His girlfriend was riding on back with some shorts and a tank top.  He said something to me, but I didn't hear him because i had the ipod turned up.  I motioned that I couldn't hear and then ignored him.  The light turned green and I started to weave my way through heavy traffic at a decent rate of speed.  I look in my side view, and there is the squid trying to keep up.

Do I A: Slow down and let the squid pass me up.  His terrified girlfriend will thank me later.

or

B:  F it! I've been riding all winter.  I seriously doubt this squid can keep up with me in this traffic.  If he tries and can't/wipes out, survival of the fittest.?

I picked A, but only because I was on my way home to use the bathroom.

isnt riding with an ipod ileagal in your state or not ? I know if VA it is.

Probably so.  It's either ipod or earplugs.  Either way, I can't hear.

I never take my helmet off durring a traffic stop.  I've been pulled over by a bike cop and he gave me 3 tickets, but he didn't say a thing about my headphone wires running from the bottom of my jacket to my pants.  He looked at it.  I'm sure he'd have given me a ticket for that too if anyone actually enforced or cared about that law.  I claim ignorance because I don't know for sure if it's against the law.

But....I thought military and former military folks either have integrity or they don't. If you're breaking the law, doesn't that make you an outlaw? Isn't ignorance no excuse for breaking the law? You've mentioned previously that things to you are black and white: you either have integrity, or you don't. If you're breaking the law, you're breaking the law. Aren't you the one who believes that if someone is not on the right path, we must do our utmost to set them on the right path? So...if an officer doesn't realize you're breaking the law, and he doesn't ticket you for it, does that make it ok to break the law?  :dunno_white:

It just seems to me that you're holding others to a higher standard than you're holding yourself to... and now you're not willing to take that responsibility or address it...  :dunno_white:

Now let's talk about this lying issue.  If you lie, that makes you a liar.  If you lie, you have no integrity.  What's hard to understand about that?

Jah - Best headphones for under a helmet are the etymotic er6is. Can be had for roughly 70 on ebay, but they fit all the way inside your ear, so they don't snag on your helmet. They also isolate you from outside noise, so you don't have to listen to the music as loudly.

Edit:  awww you caught me there.  You are sooooo perfect. Now I understand why you don't listen to anyones constructive criticism.  You don't have to because you're perfect.

How insulting. I've never been so insulted in my life. No one's ever stooped so low as to call me perfect! How rude!  :nono:

I believe that wearing something that covers both ears while driving/riding is illegal in many--if not most--states. Many--if not most--officers will not take "Sorry, officer, I didn't know it was illegal" as a valid argument against them writing you a ticket.  I wonder if iPod earpieces work if you just put one in?  :icon_mrgreen:
