DEDHAM -- A Dedham Police officer was treated for leg and hip injuries at a local hospital yesterday after his motorcycle fell on top on him when it was hit by a van.

A Randolph man, whose name was not released yesterday, has been cited in the accident.

Officer Michael Feeley was taken to Deaconess-Glover Hospital following the 11:49 a.m. accident on Milton Street, Sgt. Anthony DeFalco said. He said the van was stopped at a red light when it backed up, hitting the front of Feeley's bike and causing it to flip on top of him.

Police said the driver of the van was attempting to back up and move to the left lane. He was cited for operating to endanger, DeFalco said.

Police said witnesses at the scene saw the driver continue to back into Feeley's motorcycle as the bike lifted into the air before landing on top of the officer

The Buddha

I once was a witness to one horrifying accident...very similar...The car in front at a light shifted into reverse for some reason...Not to switch lanes (it was in the left turn lane)...cos it made no attempt to do so and there was no way to cos the other lanes were also packed with other cars...The light is still red...and a few seconds later..the second car sees the reverse light and thinks they hit the tailgaters light...and he backs up a few more feet...the reverse light is still on...and the second car honks a little cos he knows now its not the tailgaters lamp...then the light goes green...the car in front does not move but the brake light goes off...so its not on the brakes...and the second guy is now panicking...and trying to switch lanes...and I am next to him and I am letting him...at that precise instant...the front car floors it and shoots backward into the guys front bumper, spins around and is 1/2 across the center divider...Then a Tiny chineese woman gets out and angrily starts shouting at both of us...in chineese.... BTW the guy next to me was in one of those 89-90 F350 types...The car was a hyundai or some like that...He pretty much dusted the paint off the front bumper and waited for the cops...Her car was picked up by a wrecker...and she was written up for reckless driving...I am just glad the car swung left and not right...cos that would have put me at risk...but I was a bit behind though... Oh BTW it was 2 days before christmas in D/T Emeryville...leaving a HomeDepot/Toys-R-Us strip mall...

Sorry to hear that, Cam22. Hope he feels better.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
