I found a bike out of state (10 hours away) that I want to buy. I found a shipping company to ship the bike. How do I work out the logistics of the payment. I want to secure the bike with a deposit, but a contract needs to be signed. Any advice?

Use RLCarriers.  They'll pick up the bike from a business address and deliver it to a business address and you can pay upon delivery.  They'll do door to door for an addition $60.

I have already found a shipping company. I just need to figure out how to get payment and a deposit to him.

Edit: I am assuming I need to pay for the bike before the shippers pick it up. I would like him to sign a contract with the deposit to hold the bike. The only thing I can think of is overnighting a contract and check to him. He would need to sign it and send it back.

You should serious get a quote from RL.  I'mnearly willing to bet that they'll be much cheaper than whoever you've already found.

If whoever you've already found is cheaper, we would all like to know who it is.

The shipping quote that I got was door to door and only a bit more then RL. I used Uship.com  I'm worried about sending him a deposit and him selling the bike. I would like some kind of contract signed.

that's why you use a service like paypal or send a check or just go get the bike in person.  Why not rent a car, go get the bike and ride it back?

a 10 hour drive is a hell of alot cheaper to pay for both ways than getting a POS dropped on your doorstep, and the money being gone.

for me, i'd do the drive and ride it back or better yet, pay a friend gas money to haul it in his truck.

^Exactly.  I have a bike caddy on my car...the $40 in fuel is a lot cheaper and safer than any other thing you could do.

I don't know a single person who owns a truck, or has a car with a hitch on it. I originally wanted to borrow a truck and get the uhaul motorcycle attachment.

Why couldn't you just rent a pickup and put the bike in the back?  Uhaul hands out nice trucks for roughly $75 a day.

Here's a story about someone renting a full size truck from Enterprise.  He said there was no mileage charge

I did the same thing.. I drove 17 Hrs each way from PA to AR.  I rented a truck from Enterprise. (brand new Dodge Ram hehe.. It had 300 miles on it when I picked it up and 3200+ when I took it back only 38 hrs later hehehe  ... They give unlimited miles (in a certain area)  but... they dont track where you go with it  I drove from PA to AR round trip to get my GS and paid like $90 for a two day rental.. no mileage 

Uhaul will charge you a BOAT LOAD for mileage...

Some additional things to think about though...

You need to be 25 to rent from enterprize
you need a creditcard to rent from them
you need GAS lots of GAS!

Shipping could be MUCH cheaper! I had a great time going to get my GS in a rental truck.. if you can.. I would give it a try 

Hertz is really better than Uhaul or enterprise.

I rented a focus when I went to go get my porsche...$205 for like two days.  Travelled 1700 miles.

while we're on the subject of rentals, get the insurance. hate to be that guy whose insurance doesn't allow for rentals, and some asshat sideswipe you and your new bike

Yeah, renting a pickup gets my vote. Just make sure you can take it out of state, unlimited milage etc. Most rental places should be able to rent you a ramp too.

Or you could probally greyhound it. Just hope the bike is good enough to get you back home without dying on ya'
