At 1st I thought you were going way to fast, but then I saw the guy get out the car at high speed too.
I guess my video player was playing too fast. :cookoo:

The mini-van definitely headed arcoss the double yellow all right.  That's a no-no as I understand the typical highway code, be in in Cali or any other state/province in North America.

Still, you are also an example of how dangerous Lane Splitting can be, legal or not.  You can never predict the actions of others, therefore hard to protect yourself from idiots.

It's true that lane-sharing is inherently dangerous; however, one definitely gets better at predicting what the idiots will do with experience. I share lanes on my way home from work every night. I watch to see where cagers are looking, how their cars are "leaning" (ie. are they sort of hanging to the right? if so, they're probably going to change lanes), how many people are in the car (if there are two or more people in a car in the number 2 lane, then they'll likely be looking to get into the carpool lane), are they weaving, on their cell phones, not paying attention, watching the road at all...etc....etc...etc. There are always going to be unpredictable idiots who don't give one any clue as to what they're going to do, and that's where maintaining the safest possible lane-sharing speed comes into play (some say there isn't such a thing, and others say it's 10-15 miles above the flow of traffic, and others say it's however fast they can get past the cars...it's all subjective, and we're totally at the mercy of whatever officer is on duty that day). Of course, sometimes absolutely nothing we do is going to save us from the idiots like the one in the minivan who nailed Blast...

Man, that looks rough. Glad your ok enough to type at least heh. How severe are your injuries ? Anything broken, or just bruises? I saw you walking on the video (assuming that was you anyway).

Scary accident.  I am glad that you are ok!

I'm not from California, but I think that the rider was doing an illegal lane split.

As far as I know, lane splitting in CA is only allowed when you split lanes with broken (dashed) lines and NOT allowed when the adjacent lane line is solid (like next to the shoulder or next to the double yellow).

The van crossed the double yellow (which is a worse infraction)... but who's to say who the cops wrote/will write tickets too.

ducati_nolan

Glad you're sort of okay. It looked to me like the van had it's signal on though, even though it's illegal to cross the double yellow, you gotta keep your eyes peeled for stuff like that.

hope everything works out

can I get video from up to 1 minute prior to the accident?

its for my own sick enjoyment... plus I like to dissect these sort of things to learn from....

Uzbekistan, they have a huge economy and the most popular vehicles are Dodge Caravans and GS500s, do you read these threads or just post blindly?

I'm glad to hear you're alive man, that's a rough hit.  I've been trying to explain to a friend who wants to get into riding why gear is needed, this will end that discussion.

looked like the van was on their brakes, not turn signal. actually, posting video of a little bit sooner would be nice to see. I've been thinking about getting a helmet cam for when i go to the track, now i had added reason to get one. in case i get hit!

nightrider

Glad you're all right man.

I'd also love to see a minute before and a few minutes after....
