Though a beautiful flick I stopped watching it because it started getting waaayyyyyy too depressing.  Anyone seen it?  I'm just curious if the little girl dies.

They both die.

I agree that it was artfully done, but horribly depressing; Babel is the same way.

I figured he would die, but the cute little girl I thought he might peddle off on someone...bleh...

easy foreshadowing...seita wasn't taking any better care of himself than setsuko.  I assumed that setsuko would die of malnourishment before Seita, and the movie would probably end as his memories of what all had happened faded.

I starting having a hard time watching about the time seita got caught stealing...turned it off all together after setsuko started sucking on marbles and eating dirt.

~though it's been assumed that I turned the movie off because it disturbed me, the truth is that it irritated me.  Sieta's stubborness and iresponsibillity was the root of their deaths.  That's why I didn't care if HE died.

After his sister dies, he loses his purpose and hope; he goes catatonic in a subway with many other post-war Japanese and subsequently dies.  Very depressing.  He could have done something.

of course he could have...that's what pissed me off.  He waited for setsuko to already be "too far gone" before deciding to get up and go get food.
