Can anyone recommend for me a good tank bag for the GS?  I assume that almost any will fit, but I thought I'd see if there is any helpful information out there in the GS community, as you folks always seem to know what's best.... :)

I have the Tourmaster Nylon Magnetic.  I really like it.  It is expandable and can fit standard sheet size paper or mags.

I've got the Tourmaster magnetic nylon one too.  It's nice, but I'd like it better if it had some zipping side pockets or something.  It's basically one big compartment, with the map pocket on top being separate.  Still a good choice though.

I have one too; the 12-liter magnetic one.  In the expanded configuration it will zip closed around a 6-qt case of motor oil!

There are several other threads out there, too.  Do a Search for "tank bag", using "Search for all items".

I find larger tank bags to be a bit obtrusive on the GS, so I've been really happy with the Tourmaster Cortech Mini magnetic tank bag.  Never had a problem with it moving around and it doesn't get in the way of spirited riding.  Still holds a good bit of stuff with the expansion zipper open.  I just wish it would hold 2 full map folds in the see through pocket (its about 1 3/4s map folds wide).

As I mentioned in the "Stupid Magnetic Tank Bag Tricks" thread, Ocelot makes a 12-liter magnetic tank bag that looks identical to the Tourmaster.  If anybody wants to be the "guinea pig", I would be interested in a review of the Ocelot bag.  Why would anyone be tempted to try the Ocelot?  Well, here is the relevant info from Chaparral:

Tourmaster 12-liter Magnetic Tank Bag
Part #03-82376
$71.99

Ocelot  12-liter Magnetic Tank Bag
Part #200-82736
$45.97

'Nuff said?

I would buy one myself, but I already have 2 of the Tourmaster bags.  Hey wait - my Dad made off with one of my bags after our B.C. trip in August.  Maybe I can "arrange" for a replacement....

I have a tourmaster non-magnetic tank bag and after using it for a while its very handy to put things in and its much better than bungee cords. But being non-magnetic it seems to move around from side to side on the tank more than I would like. It can never fall off but its somewhat annoying. I am thinking of putting some magnets on mine to hold it in place.

Ditto here. Same bag, same need for smaller pockets. I solved that by putting a peice of cardboard (with family photos) in the map pocket and use that to store smaller items.

Use the bag everyday though...really happy with it.

I have the Chase Harper magnetic 750.  Nice size.  Holds everything I need without being obtrusively large.

Hey i was actually considering getting a CH 750 magnetic, but i was surprised to read some pretty bad reviews about it. Apparently a lot of people have problems with the expanded bag flopping around when in motion. Can you confirm or deny this glenn?

glenn9171

The only time I have it expanded is when it is full.  It has velcro down the full height of the bag on both sides.  If it is half full, just pull the velcro down and it won't flop around.  Whoever has problems with this must not know how velcro works.  I have no windscreen of any kind and I have had no movement of at all even at 90+ MPH.

This drawing doesn't show it, but there is velcro down both sides of the bag.  Just pull it tight and it keeps everything compact and secure.
