Hello. I am looking for a GS500 with no fairings, but i'm having a hard time finding one, all I can find is the newer GS500F´s.
I just dont like how the new one looks. Has anyone removed the fairings from a 500F? How does it look? What do you guys think about buying a 500F and getting rid of the fairings?

I did it ..... it's awesome  :thumb:

there are pics floating around.

It looks identical to an '01 or '02.. '01+ bodywork is the same, '04+ has the extra fairings in the front.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I've been trying to find pics. Links, anyone?

I did it too.
I installed SV650 headlight on my 2006 GS.
It was not necessary to disassemble the steering head.

Pros:
Handleability without fairings is better.
The field of view is wider.
Maintenance is much easier.
No worry about fall (with an engine guard).
Any time I can enjoy beautiful air-cooling fins.
Anyway, this easy mod is fun to do.

Cons:
Lost the identity of "F" model.
Headwind is not ignorable at 70 mph.
Rear viewability with mirrors are limited.
Gas MPG has been decreased slightly.
In the rain, I get wet more.
In the summer night riding, I kiss a lot of mosquitos.
Removed fairings are bulky and nothing but obstacle in my garage.

The older model IS the GS500F without fairings. They're identical. Except for the ugly fairings. stuckfick

I recommend the headlight assembly taken from SV650.

The size is perfect for GS. It is much brighter than authentic GS headlight, due to the clear lens and new style reflector. Also, it is quite lightweight because lens and housing are made of plastic, not glass and steel. I love this.

Many SV650 owners want to sell it in the reasonable price range (30-60 USD), as they tend to remove it for the conversion of their SV to a racing model. IMO, the headlight of 2nd generation SV looks better.
