Well I thought that I got thru my first winter ok until I realized that I lost my only key.  Me being a noob I didn't make a copy so I F@#k.  Bought my 01 gs500 used with no key id tag code.  I heard that it is writen on the ignition, gas cap, and trunk ignition.  Can someone help me out cause I got crazy so took the gas cap off and found 4 digit number on it.  Look at the ignition and found a close similar number, last but not least worked my way at the trunk ignition and what do you know another 4 digit number.
Knowledge is power, don't waste it.

There are a few locksmiths in here, I am sure one will be along soon to offer some advice.

OK.  This time around I am going to make it clear up front that I am a locksmith who does this for a living.  You have several options to ORIGINATE a lost key for a particular vehicle.

Your first call should be to the dealer to see if they can link your VIN to the key code for the bike.  As locksmiths we cannot link VIN to key code.  If however, the dealer can provide the key code, any locksmith worth a damn can make a key from that immediately.  The dealer can also provide a key from code, this process can take up to a couple days.

Next, you can have a mobile locksmith come out to where the bike is and originate a key.  I would pick the tank and seat locks to decode those wafers then progress the ignition.  This is expensive, and I would charge from $150-250 depending on bike location and time of day and week.  The national average is $375.  Alternatively, you could remove the lock cylinders from the bike and take them to a locksmith.  For the ignition you will need to remove the top triple, drill out or remove the shear/security pins.  There is a remote possibility that the key code is stamped on the outside of this lock.  You could also remove the tank and seat lock, but the tank will require picking the lock, while the seat just needs some crafty thinking.  Best of luck.  If you can locate you code, and can provide proof of ownership I would be more than happy to cut you a key and send it over.

recently bought a front end wrecked 05, no key. Took the front igniton off the bike along with the rear trunk lock and sent it to the local locksmith, cost me $50.00! Not a bad deal, you just have to pull it off the bike if you have the know-how. He just told me he would kill me if i only wanted one key, i dont blame him, just my luck i would have lost the key the day after i put it back together and would have to do it all over again. Good luck!

Just pull off the upper triple clamp and take it into a locksmith and they will make one for 30-50 bucks. I think the ignition has the most tumblers so it will work all locks but if you make the seat lock or gas cap it won't work ignition, learned this the hard way.

I reckon some lock smith can make a new key if you can bring him the lock, cuz I lost my key some times ago, after asking around, I fond a lock smith to create a keep for me after looking into the slot of the lock, and he did it in say 5 mins, and I am riding with the key without too much problem, and it is a 1 key fit all replacement.
A crash is the result of the rider's mistake, so don't blame the bike

A rider should be able to control the bike but not controlled by the bike, becuase on the track you don't want to DNF and on the road you don't want to lose you licence
