I agree with Egaeus.   this is the first I've heard of them.

...At the end of the day we had learned that all of these modular motorcycle helmets provide acceptable crash protection, as long as you make sure they will stay on your head by performing a roll-off test before you buy....

One of the better looking ones I've seen w/ the face down.

I never really got them though... people cruise around town w/ the face up, but they look so friggin goofey w/ the face flipped up.

NO you do not want a Helmet Like that I know all to well Since that is what my brother was wearing  the day he die his Name Was Phaedrus  you dont want to live  with what left if there a crash  trust in that  so any one wanting a Helmet like that DONTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT do it

l3uddha

that's the best answer you can get right there... stick to full face.

I had an accident with a KBC modular helmet and landed on my chin / side of my face.  Helmet held up fine, had a few scratches but the latching system held up and the helmet never opened up.

My wife has the Nolan modular helmet very nice helmet, comfy lots of vents.  She hasn't had a chance to test it in a crash yet ( hopefully never ).  but the build quality and material is alot better than the KBC's.

They can't be all that bad Arai, Nolan, Shoei, KBC just to name a few have modular's now.  But I would stay away from the cheaper ones, look very closely at the locking mechanism and what the lock's are made out of.
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

Not that it matters more that TazZ said, but none of flip-ups were ever SNELL certified. They are DOT indeed, so they are legal, but get yourself better protection - a full face. Also IMHO good helmets START at about $150 pricewise. Otherwise there's some serious compromises in material/workmanship area.

Me too...

Scorpion helmets are cheap and a good quality...despite any added convenience a modular helmet provides...please please STRONGLY urge him not to get one. It seems modulars are hit and miss...I'd hate for anyone to be on the "miss" side again. He may decide to get one anyway just like those cruiser types who wear open-face and pretend to not be afraid of dying because of it...I'm sorry but too much (and too many) depend on my head staying intact...

Full face is better ... I pitched face first with my bieffe BR15 and all that happened was that I got a black mark over my eye, and a face full of gravel from where it got under the jaw and in when I sat up. Small price to pay for avoiding skin grafts to my pretty face ...

My Dad uses something similar but his is a genuine BMW one and was far from cheap. The bike cops over here all use flip-up lids so they can look at you and speak clearly and politely to you when you are being bollocked for speeding. You see them at slow speeds around town with the front up. Police bikers only use the best gear so they cant be that bad but I guess like anything you pay for what you get. There is a requirement for that type of lid here in the UK that the front cant be flipped while your traveling so they have 2 catches, one on each side. You would have to take both hands off the bars to open it if you were crazy enough to want to do it on the go.

my fiance has an hjc sy-max and she loves it.
thankfully we have never had to test it

whats the point? if you need air, open the sheild. why bother with something that very well could cost you your life or pretty face? if i wasn't wearing a full faced helmet when i wrecked, i wouldn't have a face, which would mean it'd be quite a bit harder for me to get as many girls as i do, which isn't all that many, and i don't want to sacrifice that. i'd say thats the best way to explain it to a young male...

l3uddha

if you have a problem with a sweaty noggin, you should get a full-face helmet w/ better ventilation. Both my KBC & HJC helmets have sub-par ventilation, so I usually just ride around w/ the shield cracked & it's great.

If you want a flip-up so people can see your sexy face when you're cruising around town, remember that flup-up helmets look friggin goofey. Full-face helmets are hawt.
