There's a great new one...some hippy stoner looking dude is walking along and walks into a glass door.  He stops, backs up, pulls a joint out of his head, sparks up, takes a puff, then proceeds to walk into the glass door again.  Then it says "what about smoking is smart?"

What the f%$k about that commercial has anything to do with smoking?

The real pisser-offer about these is that all these commercials depict some hippy stoner looking dude as the "bad guy".  The majority of the stoners I know look nothing like hippy stoners.  The majority of the hippy stoner looking dudes I know are cleaner than I am (haven't had a puff in a couple years).  They're promoting an equivelant of racial profiling with stupid shaZam! like that...just like how the media portrays sportbike riders as irresponsible and wreckless jackasses and all the rest of the riders as hard-ass gang-bangers.  It's stupid.

The second thing that's pissing me off is the they are almost ALWAYS about marijuana.  Marijuana hasn't killed anyone in...ever.  And the shaZam! about how people who start on weed are more likely to move on to something else is 100% bullshit.  It's like i ran out of thngs to typ just now

I always thought that my generation (last of the baby boomers) would be smart enough to repeal the marijuana prohibition.  But no....

We are successfully making drugs a VERY profitable business with our stupid-@ss "War on Drugs."  Such a war cannot be won, and cannot have any more effect on drug use than Prohibition did on alcohol use.

Even crazier is the "War on Terror."  WTF makes us think we should/can wage war on things?   By definition, they will be never-ending.  Very profitable for the military-industrial complex and drug dealers, though, so they'll be with us for a while.

crap, here we go....

how the hell do I unsubscribe from a thread?

Yeah, anti-marijuana ads are almost as stupid as the current government's campaign for "abstinence only" instead of promoting effective birth control measures.

That  " irresponsible wreckless jackass" thing might be partially my fault   But, seriously I've never known anyone that died from pot but I do know of a few that died from alcohol   :icon_rolleyes: :nono:  And I've never met a "hippie" that was a burden on society or a danger to others.  Actually most of them are very well educated.  I even know a couple of hippie proffesors who ride, including one who rides a ZX10R  :dunno_white: Personally i could give a f%$k less if you smoke pot though     :thumb:

only thing that really bugs the hell out of me about stoners here..... I dont smoke - anything - and as SOON as someone finds out that I dont smoke it becomes their mission in life to get me to... same thing with drinking (here in the south your a "lightweight" if you cant down a 30 pack by yourself apparently) If people would just go "oh you dont smoke? ok" and let that be the end of it, that wouldn't bug me!

This ranting and raving really does need to lay off a bit.  As someone who deals with addicts daily I can say that I have seen marijuana ruin a persons life.  YES it is that dangerous.  However, so is alcohol.  Do I believe that all substances should be banned....no I don't.  I will not go into the legalization of marijuana or other substance legislation though as that is not something that deserves my time or effort at the moment.  I simply made this post to say that there is a side to these things that many people who are against the government efforts never see.  Are the govt ads lame and ineffective??? Most of the time that answer is a definite yes.  On the other hand, when you are around this population daily it does just as much to see someone get riled up about ineffective advertising as it does to see the true effects of use.  Please use your time more wisely and rant about how to make the efforts better not about how bad they are.

Don't confuse pressure with courtesy lol...all my smoking/drinking acquaintances offer me a drink/smoke everytime they have one.  It's just polite lol.

How about they focus their time on substances which, when charged with possession for personal consumption, has a fine that exceeds a DWI?  Or legalization/ilegalization of ALL "substances" (booze, cigs, narcotics, etc) instead of just picking things that benefit alcohol and tobacco companies?

Ok now it's time to piss people off.

Not that this is my view but I agry with some of it. I have a friend that every time we get on the subject he says "just make everything legal. the people how what to do it do any way. The crackheads and others who use hard drugs will die off, and leave the stoners chillin without the hasel of police. Use the tax from all the drugs to inforce laws on minors and rehab for those who want it.

The good thing about is all 90% off the crime related to drugs would go away.

When I was yunger it was harder to get smokes or beer than drugs.

I did a report in college about the legalisation of weed and found that if legal we would save enuff money on police, jail, and prison cost of only minor/ non violent weed charges to put every kid in the US through any college. That is only minor and non-violent offenders

hope not to piss anyone off!!

What really gets me is how the anti-drug movement plays towards people ignorance.  In a time like today where little Johnny can easily learn everything about a drug from his home computer, playing to someones ignorance isn't going to work.

I also like how make the 'hippy drug user' always looks like a total dumb ass.  Every 'hippy drug user' I know is pretty damn smart, most of them in the science and engineering fields, and can explain to you exactly the mode of operation in the body and the brain of each drug they use, both legal and illegal.  This is a far cry from the average anti-drug Joe who pops a Tylenol to fight a hangover after a long night of drinking.

Another thing that really really amuses me is how the 'hippy drug user' who enjoys his  marijuana, LSD, and psilocybin is always grouped together with the 'addict thug loser' who depends on his cocaine, opiates, and amphetamines.  They are clearly two totally different entities, and need to be treated in two totally different ways.

And we'd certainly be able to treat ADDICTS (who are different than responsible users) with the money left over.  My home state of Oklahoma leads the nation in the incarceration rate, much of it with non-violent drug offenders.  It costs a fortune to house all those prisoners, yet we cannot adequately fund education or health care for poor people.

There are alcoholics and there are people who can responsibly enjoy a drink.  We don't criminalize alcohol simply because some people get addicted (we tried that and it didn't work).  We should treat the use of drugs in the same way.

Can anyone show me in the U.S. Constitution where government is granted the power to say what plant material I can or cannot ingest?  What's ironic about my position is that I am not and never have been a drug user.  I am a civil libertarian, however.  And I disagree with our government regulating behavior that does not affect other people.
