you know, the one that holds on the front sprocket?

Thanks,

I'm not sure of the size, but the best way to get it off is to get a circlip tool.  You can get one from Sears for about 20 bucks and is definitely worthwhile if you do a lot of your own wrenching.

I just got a cheap circlip tool/snap ring pliers (actually two: internal and external) for $4 at Menards

There are 2 basic types of circlip, external and internal. The one you are talking about is an external circlip, cant tell you the size off the top of my head but its size will be the same as the diameter of the shaft measured over the splines, around 25 30 mm etc whatever. They cost pennies and are not worth reusing, I buy them in packs of 10 and throw them away each time they are used.
