LOL!!! great description!!!!  It does have a lot of that deep roar that a V-twin has....  It's just a whole hell of a lot sexier!!!! And Lighter, Sleeker, and depending on the model even cheaper than a HD!!!  Come to think of it i don't think I have or will ever see an ugly chick on the back of a Ducati  and trust me there are plenty of em on the back of HD's.  :icon_confused:

lol.

Yea Ducati's are pretty lean athletic and classy, like my women  :o

spc

The perfect description for both women and bikes.  Hopefully your women don't cost as much as the bike    But generally they are both pretty expensive to maintain!!!  That's why i look for the ones with loaded parents who can spoil themselves :thumb: :thumb:

Personally, I don't feel the need for anything other than the GS500 that I have....  Maybe add a hack to stable, and/or a dual-sport.  I imagine that I will run my GS until it dies.  :thumb:
Yup, just came back fom a ride... I do really have fun on this GS.  If I can afford to keep it when I get another bike, I most surely will.  Only reason I'm considering an already is because I want something newer, and I'm a naked man.  I'm trying to get my wife into riding, so I'm hoping she'll want it as well.

From the GS500?

That's a pretty big jump. Don't die.

Yes that would be certain death.

No the GS500 is my track day bike. I have been riding and racing for 20+ years.

Word. I only ask because I have seen it done before. Just one of those things I simply shake my head at normally.

Haha, true enough.   I won't upgrade before the season's over anyway.  I just figured next year the bike will be 10 years old, and I may want to commute on something a wee bit newer!  I wish I owned this bike when it was right out of the showroom, it's in good shape now, but man would I have loved to have broken it in.

Don't die? Nice message, Alpha. ASSumptions aren't always correct, obviously.

40HP to 180HP. That is more than four times the power difference. I think my warning was pretty fair, especially considering the context of the thread. The whole point of this thread was to see what sort of bikes people were going to after their GS500s. Therefore, logically, I could deduce that if someone said "2006 GSX-R1000" that, in the context of the thread, that was the bike they moved to after their GS500.

It's pretty simple, really.

The assumption that the Gixxer was a next bike sounds as though it was correct. The ASSumption that he'd die was not. Yup, very simple.  :icon_rolleyes:

How is jumping from 40HP to 180HP any different than hopping on an R6 as your first bike? The power increase is about the same (more, actually).

From 0HP bike to 120HP bike = 120HP net difference.
From 40HP bike to 180HP bike = 140HP net difference.

Though, to be fair, I think the '06 1000 puts down about 160HP at the wheel, so the net difference would be about the same. This is, of course, assuming you find a 120RWHP R6. This also does not take into account the torque difference.

i think the point being made is you don't go from an Kia Rio with 100 HP at the wheels (on a good day), to a Dodge Viper R/T with 500+ HP on a bad day and drive it the same way.  you need to be careful or find your ass around a phone pole.

I think that would be a very good day for a RIO

While my bike was getting a service it took a walk up the road to have a squiz at all the dealers & while looking at the new zx6 k7 thay said go for a ride mate, i said my backs not the best & other sports bikes i've been on just makes it play up, but i'll give it sit, & it felt good in the seat. So i took it for a ride  :o 1/2 hour later back at the dealers he said how was it,  :thumb: bloody good bike & i can stand up straight i was not stiff in my back at all.

After 2 years, and 14k on my GS500, I brought it to the track.  There were four of us - all track virgins.  It was a blast, and I got hooked.  The second time to the track, I was scraping my pegs.  I had already done fork and shock mods so I though about getting rearsets.  While looking around, I found an SV650S done up in a way I liked (case guards, emulators, Ohlins, Woodcraft) for $3k.  I bought it and didn't look back for a year and 13k miles.  I kept the GS thinking I would commute on it, but going back to its suspension, engine and brakes wasn't fun.  It wasn't until I had a great track day on the SV with new tires that I thought I should try to save the tires for the track and just use the GS.  It took some readjusting but I'm back on Gus for my commutes.  Did a group ride in the hills last weekend and pushing Gus took another set of adjustment.  After two hours, I began to remember how to ride the GS in the hills and that too became fun.

I've added a dirtbike and a BSA project to my stable.  I plan to cross the country next year so I'm looking at the new generation of FZ1.  Depending on where you're coming from, it's either a standard, tourer, sport tourer or even a sportbike.  Whatever you call it, it fits the bill.  I'll prolly have to sell Gus.  We're going on four years together and he's been a tank, but I don't want him to sit idle for another year while I romance the FZ1.  Besides, the days are getting longer and there are lots of people that need a Gus.  Riding around on him recently has reminded me of how great a first bike, actually, just bike, the GS500 is.  If things were just a little different for me, I could be plenty happy cruising around on him.
