so we've determined my clutch is on its last leg.. would this cause a clanking noise clutching into first from a stop?  i've pinpointed it to somewhere inside the case..

Maybee, if it's really far gone, the plates could rattle and since there is no friction material to deaden the sound, it could make some noise

I'm confused.  Are you saying that when sitting stopped in neutral, the trans makes a "clank!" sound when you pop it into first?

Are you sure your clutch is adjusted properly?  A dragging clutch will cause the trans to clank or grind its way into first gear from neutral with the motor running.

The fingers on your Basket may be Grooved if you have done some hard Shifting or shifted without Clutching it.Or your Gear May be Loose on the basket itself.
If when you inspect everything I have a Complete Clutch I'll sell.

if it was the plates themselves you would hear the clank in every gear and every time you pull the lever in.

HOWEVER if the clutch is really really really reall worn its a combination

its not realllly really worn. it only slips im at higher RPMS and goose it.  when i am stopped. i have the clutch in and put it in first.  then i give it throttle and release the clutch.  i hear a nice clank inside the case. 


aside from that, other than adjusting the cable at either end, how do u adjust the clutch?

take off the I can't remember on the GS if there is an access hole or not over the clutch adjustmen screw....either way it's accessable through a plug in the sprocket cover or it's just behind the sprocket cover. Should be a little screw that you can adjust.....probably have to chizzle off gunk before you can see it
