I plan to cross the country next year so I'm looking at the new generation of FZ1.

Get the first gen if you plan on doing that. Larger tank, more comfortable seat, higher bars, and more wind protection. Carbs should not be an issue.

Welll after 1.5 years of owning the GS500 we are now done with it.

My wife has now graduated to a brand new F4i a very excellent next step for a newbie in the sportbike world. It's typical honda fit and finish smooth operation and of course the prettier blue color all added up to her getting the new bike as her birthday present. I was very impressed with it's forgiving nature and comfortable seating in comparison to the beast, our bikes are named beauty and the beast btw. Have fun and keep em wheels down :thumb:

Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

Best decision I ever made, right after the GS500- very easy transition but I was very careful

Looks like a freaking Transformer. Bikes like that look hella unwieldy to me ... course im sure its comfy and all and easy to ride. Nice.  :thumb:

My next bike?

Well, for one I want to keep my GS...   But, I'd like to add to my collection.   :icon_mrgreen:  I REALLY want this '04 Marauder 1600...  That friggen thing is soooo comfortable...  It would smoke the GS up any straight line hill...  Especially high elevation.

I'd get the sissy seat-back for the wife... Bags... Oh yeah, I'm getting old.

Small update:  After a month & 800 miles on the VFR800 VTEC I picked up new, I rode the GS last night.  Now maybe the humidity and leaving it parked for a while didn't do it favors (clutch cable in particular feels like it needs lube), the GS just feels weird now.  Carries it's weight lower, not a lot of power unless reved a lot more, bike feels really small.  Then again I'm 6'5 so the GS never felt real big but it seems to have shrunk.

I'm officially a Honda fanboy, by the way, after the VFR.

At times on an open straight the GS really lags. Gears seem to be good for only about 30 feet of acceleration each. Then I think about mods, but I'm too lazy and cheap.
Then at other times it hauls ass. Its weird, I thought I'd get tired of it but Im at 9000 mi and the GS is still coo'.

I can understand how things like this happen.  My motto:
