can someone suggest a good place to start for track & street air pressures on my new wheels & tires?


front: 120/60/17 on a 3.5" wheel.

rear: 150/60/17 on a 4" wheel.

both tires are Michelin Pilot Race Radials.


I'm going to tweak them as I go, but suggestions on where to start would be great.

Right on the Make/Model plate (LH side of the frame) there are front/rear tire pressure requirements. As far as the track? I duno

yes, that is obvious. I'm talking about the rims & tires I mentioned above. Somewhere to start would save me time. I'll be tweaking them as I go...

Pilot Powers, or Pilot Roads?

For track, I'd set front and rear somewhere around 29psi, that way when the tires warm up they should hover right around 33psi. Depends on track conditions too, though. But either way, it's a good starting place.

For street, cold psi I'd say 31 front and 34 rear. It's a place to start at least.

Track -     Front 30-31
              Rear 28-30( See how it feels)

Street, I would use the stock GS pressures, or look at the pressure listed for a Katana

 

On the track...30/30 is pretty much where I start, with temps 70-90F. If it is above 90F I may drop 1-2 lbs.

great. my Michelin tire rep says start at around 30f & 28r, so everyone's pretty much in the ballpark 

Was he refering to just the tires or the tires on a GS?

Remember that the GS does not have much HP so the rear does not to be that much lower than the front. It does not have the power to heat up the rear.

yea there are a few GS's and EX's that race up at NHIS, & that's what he was referring to. You're right about the rear though. 30/30 does seem like a good base to start at & test from there.
