Well, I'm tired of buying handle bars and wanted to change something so I decided to try clip-ons.  Not Exactly sure how they will fit or if I am going to have to remove the top plate yet but I will get back and post some pics after I get the peices and have them installed.  Right now I have clubmans and are aware of the clearance issues with them and the fairings and what I had to do with them to get them to work but eh, I got a good deal and figured i can make it work.  Anyone who has done this on an F model without taking off the fairing is welcome to throw in thier .02 cause i have a little bit to stew on it waiting for them to get here in the snail mail.  Yay run on sentances, they are just for you alpha :laugh: :laugh:

So they will mount under the top triple?  Will your steering still lock or does it hit the fairing?

locks fine , you just need to adjust the controls and levers so when you turn the cables wont hit the fairngs but for me it feels great but some may say its a bit too head forward but i like it that way. when i get ready to paint my bike im going to mod the fairings a little so the control can fit more comfy i just need to shave some of the plastic anf five it more of a groove.

the same problems arise w/ clipons on the F-model as before, in which they should be mounted above the top triple.

you should really give all the details before going and suggesting something like this Mach.

1) bars are very close to the farings.

2) brake & clutch levers need to be rotated up more than usual to keep them from touching the farings, which will mess with your wrists.

3) the clipons need to be mounted UPSIDE-DOWN. dont tell me there's no specific way to mount them Mach. If you see clipons on ANY sportbike they're mounted in one direction. And yes, I've read the Woodcraft CFM instructions and installed TWO sets of them on a GS myself. They are made with a 7 degree down-angle from the clipon axis perpendicular to the forks. Turning them upside-down translates into a 7 degree up-angle.


I dont mean to seem like an ass Mach & keep contradicting you, but normal clipons put most of your weight foreward onto the bars. If the bars arent in the correct position, they could wreak havoc on your wrists. I'd love to know how yours are feeling after a few-hour ride.

I had woodcraft clipons on my 37mm GS forks before I got the new front end, but they looked very similar to this when mounted CORRECTLY:





note the last picture especially. The clipons will bring you down LOW. Mounted correctly; they're pretty comftorable. Mounting them upside-down is completly faaked!

Ok l3uddah, you're the first  to supply pics of the aftermath of an install.  With yours did you remove your fairings permanently or did you reinstall them?

oh the farings on mine are long gone. If you want to mount them below the top triple & get the full range of adjustability for the clipons & levers as well as the correct down-angle you'll have to lose (or cut-up) the farings.

You can get the same effect by mounting them above the top triple though, just have to remount the guage cluster somehow...

I sold the farings for parts. I got that acerbis headlight, which is OK, but I'm gonna look for something better. Maybe fab something up myself...

I'm just gonna use it to ride my bike to my appartment building. It's gonna be great: ignition duct-taped to the fork, tach duct-taped to the acerbis, and an expired NM plate!  :icon_mrgreen:

once you get rid of the farings, it opens up so many more options on how to dump money into these damn bikes!

maybe I'll get to ride it one of these days... if it ever stops raining!!!!!

after rereading my above post, I realize that I may have come off as an @$$hole towards you mach1, & that wasnt my intention at all.

I'm sure your way will work, it just comes down to wrist issues with me. I do a lot of computer work, so my right(mouse) wrist is already acting up from time-to-time.

my clipons are set low, but having that full adjustability has allowed me to find a sweet spot where everything just feels perfect. I can keep my wrists straight and have the levers resting right at the tips if my index & middle fingers. There really should be no compromising when the bars are your connection to basically everthing the bike does.

I know you should keep as little weight on your wrists as possible, but everyone knows after those long rides that evenyually the back needs a break.

adjustability is key, otherwise you may end up hating the clipons. Though your method IS much better than those stupid stock bars.... and by buying Woodcraft you're supporting MY local economy  :thumb: horay!

i dont see you as an @$$hole evryone has their opinion. He just asked if they can be mounted with the fairings and i said yes, it can be don with a little moding and taking away some comfort but im fine with that my hands and wrists are used at work all day so they can take a good amount of abuse before getting tired. but when i ever get around to making the headlight bracket im going naked and will put the clipons the other way but for now they are fine.

the 96-99 GSXR 750 forks I just installed are longer than GS forks.  Therefore I see enough room to mount above or below the top tripple.
just have to decide which.  personnaly I'm ok with the monkey f*cking a football riding position. 

And
I was going to make comment on the lever positioning on the Mach bike but i figured it would come out bad.  that looks seriously uncomfy!!!!!!
a straight bar looks like it would hurt my wrists less.

Right now I think i am going to stiffen the forks and push them up a little and mount the clip-ons above the triple.  That would put the bars at pretty much the same position that they are in now with the clubmans that I have on that got bend up when I parked my little baby on a hill  :laugh: :laugh:.  A Steel plate or something to eliminate that top plate that the gauge cluster mounts to would be nice so I might make something up but i'll com to that hurdle once i get there.  I think i can push the forks up a good Inch and a half to two inches without worrying about smacking the lower triple with suspention play while riding.  still going to make a pacer with pvc the pablo way though :thumb: 

Still waiting on the clipons though, should be here real soon....... me= impaitent

clip-ons are in and I am going to be working on them soon, very soon.  Now al i need are my mirrors, anyone need a left mirror, i got an extra  :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

clip-ons are installed and above triple and top plate.  I am going to stiffen the springs but they don't have to be.  There are absolutly no clearance issues what so ever and  they are comfy as all get out.  Pics to come later cause vista sucks, I'll have to use my mac from work on monday.

Now all I need to do is preload the springs a little, they don't hit the lower tripple but it is close (1/2 inch or so), and I am going to cut the FUBARed bars and put a little bar across the handle bar mounts to mount a clock to or something.  Hey of I am leaving it there I might as well use it for something right.  And again I had absolutly no clearance problems except for the forks comming close to the lower triples, they won't hit it though.  Hopefully this doesn't put the front wheel cover to close to the heat, if it does no biggie, i'll just rip it off :laugh:.

All said and done, best $95 bucks I have ever spent :thumb:
