Well, I've been riding since October of 05, and have 22,000 miles under my ass...So far this season I have met so many new riders. Every  one of them has an 07 race replica 600, and has either layed down their bikes or crashed...thanks and goodnight.

Yup, sounds about right.

As can be told by your average yearly mileage, you are a true motorcycle enthusiast.  They are fad riders.

Congrats on putting 22,000 miles in!  I've been riding since the same month as you and I've put in a weak 6,500.

My milage has dropped off a bit the last couple years but is still above average.  My 02 GS had 31,200 miles on it on 10-1-05 and now has 46,700 miles on it.  About 15,500 miles for that period of time.

Still closer to a true motorcycle enthusiast than a fad rider, I think.   :thumb:

The squids can have the 07 race replica 600s.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

I put about 14,000 miles on my bike in that period of time. Most of the guys on Harleys or race replica bikes probally only put 1K or 2K a year. The ones who put on the most miles are those who ride cheap and or clapped out POSs. Commuters and those whou are too broke to drive a car regularly are the real riders!  :thumb:

I still want a really fast bike though

so does that make me a real rider? I use my bike daily to and from work and everywhere in between

Yes it dose, oh yes it dose. the only way to be more of a "real rider" is to sell your car and go two wheeled only. I consider it acceptable to have a car or truck though, that way you can pick up your next project bike and parts!

I plan on moving somewhere I can ride al year long, and have wondered about selling the car when I do...

I don't think I ever will though, because there will be times that a cage will be better.

Sounds like Texas.

I use my bike as often as I can, but commuting back and forth to school doesn't exactly pile on the miles. 5 miles each way, twice a day = ~20 miles a day. Since I got my DR-Z I have stuck 3800 miles on it in 5 months, averaging a paltry 760 mi/mo. I don't get time for many sport rides anymore due to my school load, but we'll see if the summer changes that at all.

I bought my GS in July of '05 with 10,500, I'm just closing in on 14K, but it's also out of commission for 4-5 months a year as the Minnesota winter is comparable to Siberia's (true story, look it up), but I ride until there's snow on the streets in the fall, and once it's almost gone in the spring. While the salt/sand on the road is a real pain, it's just about being observant and cautious, now that we've got good hard rain on the way and the street cleaners are out and about, time to have some fun! :thumb: I also have a Toyota pick-up, that's my baby too, and a 1970 Ford Thunderbird, so my motoring time is spread thin ...

Since buying it new in '01, I have put on 26K on my GS.  Put on 15K on my mom's YZF600R, and 14K on my current Duc ST2.  Been car-free for almost 4 years now, but there are definitely times I'd like to have something with more trunk space than the hard saddle-bags on the ST2.

I am 18 and got my first bike about a week or two ago. I have since put like 140 miles on it. Today alone I put 70 on it since it's been a nice day  :) I plan on putting much more if the weather stays nice.

My point is that these guys that have crashed their new race replica bikes learned the hard way... hard ass...
Hence the title 'new riders'... your first bike wasn't your 07 race rep. 600... what's your point??

1 year and 15k miles later.  No damage to me or the bike yet.  I guess I'm a real rider.  I'd love to get a RR 600+, but I don't see it as a practical daily driver.  The thing that makes the GS great for me is it's cheap.  I'm a cheap guy, and I spend next to nothing keeping the GS going on a daily basis.  I don't have much invested in it.  I ride rain, shine, snow, and cold.  I even came close to getting caught in a tornado recently.  Luckily, it hit 20 minutes after I got home.

So the moral of the story is:
You only need a cage when riding in a tornado.

I'd love to keep the GS as a commuter and pick up an inline 4 RR as a trackbike.  I get myself in enough trouble doing 115 with the GS.  I'd prefer to not have access to 150+ on the street.

Anyone here daily drive a supersport? Thoughts/opinions if you do.

I think the extra 65hp of my new bike has warped my fragile little mind.  I still believe in riders starting on smaller displacement bikes, but my desire to preach this gospel at every turn has evaporated.  Huh, maybe it's from reading a 600 board, where 99% of the riders are idiot young guys or posing girls.

Rock on with you and your high mileage, Mello.

Jarrett - I ride my 600rr to work about 4 days out of the week.  Short commute, about 20 minutes, so definately not a hard core ride.  I was worried about aroundtown riding when I bought the 600--I had read about the lack of power in the low rpms.  Then I test rode one. Damn, my 600 pulls harder lugging in second than the GS did wrung out.  Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration, but I definately don't feel that the bike is "weak" down low, just...tame. I usually don't even make it into the 9000rpm powerband on my way in, can image that peeps on liter bikes can even wake their bikes up around town.

I'll ride in the rain and the cold, but it's hard to get motivated enough to get out the big weather gear for a 20 minute ride.  I don't ride in snow/ice.  Other than that, it's about the same as commuting on the GS.  It starts up fast, no choke.  No tank bag, so I have to do the backpack thing.  One nice thing is that getting on the bike in the morning, I don't feel like I'm going to work, I feel like it's Saturday and I'm headed out for a ride.  About 50% of the time, I make some kind of detour through the hills on the way home, too.  Gas mileage is worse than the GS, obviously, but still better than my SUV.

Right on, I think the thing that really chaps me, is that I want my upgrade now, but can't afford it, and can't stand seein' one of my potenitially next bikes get worked...

rumor is that the new GSX-R1000 is suppose to have a setting on it where you can pick what type of riding you want to do i.e. power of a 600 power of a 750 then 1k
