I'll try to get some pics of her up before I go to work this evening.  She's been beat on so she's no gem, but she's stable.  At the moment I'm trying to find floats for her because I think mine leak because valves aren't always shutting off so she leaks fuel everywhere.  She's also got a lot of other fueling issues that's driving me nuts.  I've always hated carburetor work.

She has a full intake and an open exhaust.

With 78 pilots and 115 mains (stock jetting) she idles okay and does alright at 1/4~1/2 throttle.  Below 1/4 and above a half she bogs horribly.

With 78 pilots and 130 mains she'll do everything up to about 1/4~1/3 throttle really nicely.  Above that and she flattens out.

I think 115 isn't enough and 130 is too much.  She's also got this thing where she wants to fire on only one cylinder at times and she switches back and forth between the two.  It's nutty.  I got a rebuild kit to redo the carburetors but I think it was a waste of money.  Got my fingers crossed.

I've never met anyone who enjoyed working on carbs, good luck though.

when the hell did everyone start reffering to each other by first names here?

Well, Jennifer, it is a new development.

Sincerely,

RIP RICH! We'll miss you buddy!

weasel's name is jennifer?  oh shaZam!

anyway....

Basic bike as she is.

~That should be a better pic of the rotor setup on the bike right now.  I still need to find another rotor, though...I'm kind of leary about hard braking with the two lug patterns being separated by only a few thousandths of an inch of material.  Had to ditch the brembo master, though.  Too big for this one caliper...blew out a seal.  Using a 1/2 tokico master now.

For those of you who think my work is "ghetto", you should see the work done by the PO.

~that's silicone holding the headlight in.

~That's bailing wire holding the license plate on...

So far the most irritating thing about this bike is that she's not consistant.  Yesterday, she runs for shaZam!.  Today, she doesn't like the front wheel being on the ground until 3rd gear.  Tomorrow she'll either explode or not work at all.  Whatever...

oh and the peanut butter thing works pretty good on tires, too, for those of you who care about stuff like that.

crap, I didn't realize it was a SUX 500..........
I got one of them for free once when i worked at a bike shop
be VERY careful with them little diaphrams on the side of the carbs.....$80 each back in the mid 90's

Kewl, I make it a shiney happy place to hang out
since i got out of the military....I like first names....don't know many last names any more....don't care either

That's the accelerator pump and it's about as important as cancer.  I hate it...thus plugged all the ports on it and cut the brass needle off.  Rebuild kits are about $30 now.

werase643

that is a seriously weird bike to ride......
the torque effect will pull you towards the ground turning one way  and straighten you up turning the other.....friggin scarey as hell the first couple of times....

makenzie71

haha the cool thing is whacking the throttle open in first gear.  Yesterday she'd rev just a little and flatten out...today she powers the front up and accelerates like she's trying to escape hell.  The torque effect in an unexpected wheelie is interesting to say the least.  I'm glad there wasn't any traffic in the oncoming lane cuz that's where I ended up.

I've been on a number of shaft drive bikes before, though, so it's not really too new to me and this bike actually has a counter-rotating gear assembly so nearly all of the shaft effect is gone unless you're really wringing the engine out.

werase643

i don't think it's shaft effect....
i think its' that big crank effect up front......

makenzie71

yeah crank and shaft spin one way and the gear set spins the other and cancels it out.  Like the countershaft on the GS (or EX...can't remember if the GS has the countershaft or not).

werase643

they both do....
but on the gs/ex it's perpendicular to the lean angle on the CX you notice it heck reving the thing will pull it to one side if i member correctly

I only rode it a day before selling it to a friend...he loved it
that is the base engine design for the hawkGT turned 90 degrees
part of the problem with the hawk...heads were designed for a 500cc bike....not a 700+ cc monster

yeah I'll get some vids up and what not later...she'll sound pretty badass after the jetting is setup and the full exhaust is finished.

yamahonkawazuki
