Hi Everybody,

Does anybody know where I can find a luggage rack for a 1996 GS 500E?  I understand that a rack for up to a 2000 will work.  I have been looking all over the place, and have not been able to find one.  Thanks

As far as I know Suzuki never made a GS500 luggage rack before the 01 and later rack shown here, part no 99950-70267 :



I bought one for my 02 GS and installed a Givi trunk and had to add support braces:

To see why it was listed only for 01 and later models, I tried the Suzuki rack on my old 97 GS500E and it fit on OK but it touched the body work at a couple places.  If I wanted to use it on the 97 I would just file or grind a little clearance at those points, no big problem as I see it.

I used a homemade rack on the 97 that bolted to the grab handle and could be removed by unbolting the handle.  It held up fine for many years and tens of thousands of miles carrying only soft luggage with clothes, gloves, etc:

Thanks for all the info.  It was a great help.  I went ahead and ordered the 2002 luggage rack from Suzuki.  I will make the necesary modifications to make it work.  This is a great site!
