You're looking rather lean...should be a nice brownish color...not black not white...time to rejet..

how much lean a little or a lot and plus i had the flash on but from the looks of the plug the top has a grayish tint to it not white and the white part in the middle has a brown spot on it. but i was going to do this setup with some uni pods. 22.5/65.142.5 would that help

as far as messing with it goes im not some joe shmo who decided to pick up a wrench and fiddle with my bike im a trained mechanic and have been for the past 4 years now. and if im not mistaken the charcal canister can be bypassed by routing the hose from the tee directally to the tank same out come only difference is the fumes going to the canister get filtered to some extend(not totaly sure about that) and the bike (or car) really does not need it its just and enviromental thing instead of venting all the fumes into the atmos. send it to the carbs to be burned.  older cars dont even have this kinda stuff, at least none im aware of. and for me its mainly cosmetic i want to be able to look at my fram and see the other side not a bunch of clutter. biek and car engineers are good at what they do dont get me wrong but they also have to go by a strict book of things that need to be on a bike to pass regulations and since cali does not have yearly inspections for bikes why should i keep this crap on i see no good reason. what i was asking was should i cut the hose or plug it but i guess now im going to just hook it up to the T, but im not sure yet im going to try a couple of things a see which one works best
oh yeah my bike Ran like crap cause some idiot mechanic didnt know what he was doing and messed with my carbs and screwed them up put thread locker on the wrong thing forgot the little o rings under the diaphram and didn sync the carbs properly but i fixed all that crap but wait i guess since i touched it its going to run like crap maybe next time ill send it back to a mechanic so i can pay him to F&^% up my bike. i never took any of my cars to a mechanic why i am one why pay when you can do it yourself thats stupid.

i have benn out of the auto world for about 4 years now im still training in mechanics but not auto anymore im doing modern hydraulics. and im not sure if bike are different from cars and to me the plug is good the pics make the top white but its not. im not used to checking for lean and rich mixtures, i usually work on EFI so with tune up i just remove plugs throw away gap the new and install. so shhhhhhhhuuuttttt uuuupppp im a lazy bum and after the post i did my research and looked in my book to check what the color means and the plug is good but it it running a bit lean. so :flipoff:, and as far as my canister post goes its all good no change just capped the T and rerouted the vent hose and i have not had any problems AT ALL.

How about these? Looks like might be same issue, maybe overheating? I'm far from a mechanic, so any advice would be nice... These plugs have about 6000KM on them or 3728 Miles.

Too lean, and you've been leaving the choke on for too long.  You can always tell if you're leaving the choke on too long by the black ring of soot around the threads.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

I'm with you, although the left plug is more or less ok (a tad too lean indeed, but not dramatically). Right plug had a beating :) . The tip is too white and the ring had too much carbon.

You guys kick ass. I admit I leave the choke on too long sometimes... One tired morning I rode a good 20 miles of freeway with the choke half on -- couldn't figure out why the bike was running like sh!t until I got to work... Really kicked my own butt when I noticed. Also worth noting that the bike is coming out of it's 3rd winter storage, where the carbs have not been scrubbed or drained (I do use Stabil though)... So I'm probably looking at a rejet / carb cleaning anyway, huh?

I've heard sometimes the answer is as simple as switching where you get your gas from. I do run standard (87) octane currently.

Thanks,
J

PS: Sorry to steal your thread, Mach1.

Both of you are leaner than hillary duff on an apple cider vinegar diet.
Dont even ask these dumb questions here after without rejetting.
Heck that is the answer to 99% of the stock sheiete problems.
Cool.

Hey, appreciate the honesty. What parts would you recommend for the re jet? Sorry if the answer is obvious. I'm sea level, the bike is bone stock and I'm looking also to get the stock airfilter out of there and put in a K&N (SU-5589).

Wash the stock filter in gas and re use it. Good for 2-3 times minimum.
125/40/3/1 for all stock ... as per the FAQ, the wiki and the 1000's of others that have asked this before.
I can package it all and sell it ~$21 including shipping and paypal commission.
Cool.
