So, just looking at the Forks of the Credit area, didn't get to ride the road last year as it was closed, was going to head up there shortly, however. It's about an hour ride from Kitchener (my hometown), and Forks of the Credit road is about 6km long. Which will take minutes to ride, and seeing as I've never ridden it before, I'm not sure how many times around it would take me to be bored of it. Probably less when it's very busy and patrolled. It was REDONKULUS when I went last year, leaves were just changing... Don't go to Belfountain in the fall... Hoe-lee-shaZam!. Sooooooooooooooooo...

Has anyone ever put together a nice route of sorts in that area that incorporates some other nice roads? When I was up there last year, I do remember some nice hills, but, I was just screwing around, kind of ride in one direction for a few km, and then turn back so I wouldn't get lost...

Would be interested to hear everybody's input, especially riders who live in the area, or ride the area regularly.

Its Just Me

Don't bother, the road is still closed and I.ve been told that it will stay closed for 3 years.  Not sure if they were including last but its a long term closure.  This info came from a freind and fellow rider who lives on the north end of the Fork area.  Hope this isn't too late and your already on the way out there.

I guess my response didn't make the best of sense, but I was in a massive hurry to write it.  If your looking for a good ride in that area, you can start on the 401 or 407 and head north on Winston Churchhill, it will basically follow the Credit River up towards Belfountain.  On this ride take a moment and stop in at Terra Cotta and Norville and a definate if you've not been there is the Badlands,, (just make a right on Old Base Line from W.Churchill its on the south side about 3 min east of Mississauga Rd).  After the Badlands its just a short ride up Miss. Rd. to Belfountain and the Forks.

Since your coming from Kitchener, why not try this: (a ride I take to kill time, only a couple hours long.)
-From 401 exit Trafalgar and head south,
-Turn right on Lower Base Line West
-(after the first wooden 1 lane bridge, turn left at next stop sign (your basically following Lower Base Ln.W)
-Turn left at the end (4th Line)
-First right back onto Lower Base Ln.W
-Turn left at the end onto Tremaine Rd.
-Turn right onto 2nd sideroad
-Turn right on Appleby
-Turn left on first road
-Right on Walkers Line
-Right on 4th Line
-Left on Appleby (Killer hill and twisties but short north of Derry Rd.)
-Left on 3rd Side road
-Right on Guelph Line and stop in Cambellville for a bite and a drink, your back at the 401.

Come to think of it, I would love some tips for good riding around Kitchener, Im out that way a lot since I fly out of Kitchener/Waterloo Regional.  We should meet up some time and lead on the road we know.

Hey.. i'm from Cambridge and wouldnt mind some more info on some rides for sure... :)  taking 24A to paris is the only twisty road i've been on sofar..

I need the ability to post a picture on this site... (Admin?!?!?!? Bueller? Bueller?)

Anyways, there are some real nice roads in the region.

24A into Paris is, of course a nice road, but only at triple digit speeds (140+), and it would seem that the OPP has caught on to that. Pity.

A good loop to be on is the Wellington street cutoffs off of the 7/8/85 highway. Get on the highway, and look for the exit. It's uphill, and I usually take it in and around 100-105km/h. The downhill portion, is a little trickier, but I can still maintain about the same speeds. Both exits feature a douple apex, so be warned.

If you do happen to travel here, I am usually at work at the Jiffy Lube on Victoria st. at Bruce. Look for my GS at the big Jiffy sign.

Another nice route to get to Elora is as follows:

Take the 7/8/85 until you reach Bridgeport rd in Waterloo. Make a left, continue until Lancaster, making a right.
Left onto Bridge st.
Right onto Woolwich st (Next right)
Veer right at the stop.
Make a left at the stop sign onto...Woolwich st. (It is a continuation)
Follow to the end, make a right onto University Ave.
Second left will put you on Woolwich st. (I know, I know...I didn't make the street names!)
Left at the stop sign just past the bridge.
Right at the four way stop sign.
Follow into Elora, going through Salem.

Round abouts are:
at Erb st in Waterloo, heading towards the city dump.
At Fountain and Homer Watson where Kitchener and Cambridge meet (in Blair)
Hwy 85 going into Elmira. See http://www.region.waterloo.on.ca/web/region.nsf/RoundaboutsInWaterloo?OpenPage for more info.

There are more, of course, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head

It's Just Me - that road that has killer turns, and a hairpin (NO KIDDING!!) is awesome, but be warned that a lot of sand is in the corners.

Normally, I travel for a solid 1/2 hour or so to get to decent corners. I try to avoid The Forks, (Which is previously been mentioned that it's closed) but in that area, there is also Hockley Valley rd. off of Hwy 10.

In Hamilton, check out Snake rd.
Take Hwy 6, into Hamilton, and a make a left onto Plains rd.
Continue for about 3km, and make a left on Snake rd.

The Glen Williams area in Georgetown is pretty, and also has some good turns.

If you are heading towards Niagara, or more specifically into Niagara On The Lake, get onto the North Service rd. It follows the QEW for a good portion of the way, and there is some good turns at every intersection of the roads that cross over the Qew. It's fun...but in a break-up-the-monotony-sort-of-way.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Damn...long post.

Almost forgot I started this thread......

So, last weekend, just after I made that post...

Rode up Avenue road in Cambridge, which turns into a road I can't remember the name of, which turns into Campbellville road, which obviously goes into campbellville. Was a really nice ride, aside from the kinda low speed limit the whole way there... I was in more of a relaxed mood so, it was cool, awesome day. Got to Campbellville in about an hour and a half and decided to head up to the forks from there, really anticipating riding this road I've heard so much about...

Ride into Bellfountain, lots of bikes as per normal, cool.

Turn left, turn right, ride up the hill....... WHAT THE f%$k........... I actually STOPPED at that f%$king road closed sign. The closed april whatever to December 15, 2006 is painted over, and a nice little sign is above it that says it'll be closed till Sept. 30, 2007 now. <Seinfeld Elaine> That's just GREAT! </Seinfeld Elaine>

So, thankfully I didn't start my ride heading to Belfountain planning on riding the forks.

Is there some politician in the area who doesn't like bikes or something? Or just some money in the area that doesn't like bikes? How on earth does a 6km road get closed for so f%$king long.... They could have cut a new road through f%$king granite in northern Ontario in less time than that... Ugh.

Anyway, was still a nice ride. Hopefully sometime in my lifetime I get to ride this road.... Seems like it may not be for a while though.

Gookie

Ok, just read the rest of the posts going to have to check out these routes sometime. I've ridden that route to paris many times, I agree it's nice and twisty, but every 2nd time I ride it I see the OPP running a speed trap somewhere along the way, so, makes me not want to push the limits too much.

I usually ride up bleams road to trussler
left on trussler (hilly)
right on huron
go across queen street
the last right you can take before entering this town (can't remeber) it's a 4 way intersection
Turn right
go across the hiway (over top)
Then from there, just kind of get lost in the country somewhere and find my way home.

OH!

Or, one of the BEST corners I've ever ridden in this area....

Hiway 85 all the way into St. Jacobs.
There's a roundabout, pretend it's not a roundabout, if that was a normal intersection, turn left. It's the 2nd or 3rd exit out of the roundabout
Shortly after you've "turned left" (700m) there's a stop sign
Turn left again
quick right
Ride allllllllllllllllllllllllll the way up that Buddha Loves You
Till you get to another stop sign.

That should be regional road 12.

Turn right.

This is an 80km/h road, the corner has a 30km/h advisory speed. Huge banking, decreasing radius corner, with two monster roller coaster hills after it.
I usually go up there and just ride the corner back and forth a couple dozen times, with the hills. It's that good.

Sorry I don't have better street names. I just kinda know how to get there.
