Where are my vacuum inlet caps?

I've got a 2001 GS, and I want to sync my carbs. However, the vacuum inlet cap is not where my Clymer manual shows it.  (You can see what I'm talking about, #14 at http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/showschematic.asp?dept_id=138281 ). The cover for my carbs are all one piece, I can't take any cap off. Is there some other place I should be looking? Bot the clymer book and the online diagram at bike bandit show something different from what I've got. Am I doomed?

Heres the problem.. you are looking at 99' carbs...  YOURS are 01'. And very different. In fact, youve  got a main AND a midmain etc.. looks totally different. Someone on here will chime in about their carbs, but im not familiar with the newer setup. I do know they arent on symmetrical places though.

I'm trying to track down any info about my carbs I can. I see 'Mikuni' on the side, as well as '01DJ L0Z2' (could be 0 instead of O, I or L instead of 1). I checked Mikuni's site, and I don't see anything that's obviously my carb. Any ideas?

I did some googling and it looks like the 2001 has Mikuni BSR34 carbs. Unfortunately, the only place I can find reference to it on the 'net is on GS500 spec pages . Maybe I'll give Mikuni a call.

I've got an '01 and synched the carbs a couple of weeks ago...i posted a kinda long message on it.  Look for "Carb balance on an 01 - experience and questions".   The left (shifter side) carb has a cap...just lower down than in the clymer manual, right above the...i don't know what it's called...throat maybe...between the carbs and the engine.  I had to take my carbs off to put a hose on the friggin thing.   The other "cap" is actually the vacuum line to the fuel on/off switch.

They are both located at the very front of the carb...on the right side of each respective carb, aiming up at the tank.

Oh, by the way...the two vacuum ports are different sizes, so make sure you get an adapter for whatever method you are using to do the balance.
