I was wondering if anyone knows how labor intensive it is to put a buell x1 tail section on a gs......From what I have seen of the pictures online it almost looks like......cut off the gs tail section and bolt it on :icon_confused:... so whats the word on the street anyone know?
Do you have to fab/reinforce anyting?

Check it out....

Alphamazing

Uhh, and what do you make of those massive welds holding the brackets to bolt it to?

Mandres

It looks massively uncomfortable too.

gstwizzle

Jay_wolf

Hmm , My r6 tail Will be Bolt On as it is , So Theres No Huge Welds Or Nout , And The fact u cant weld Alu to steel ,

Then Using The stock Piece of fairing , cut and modded to make it more flush

:D:D

i like the angle of that tail tho ,

Hipocracy.... becoming more acceptable with the more power you think you have.

I guess I will go to the local harley dealer and try to get some measurements off an x1 they have there......anyone else want to chime in???

As Some One Did . Its Simple Enough To Bolt On A Rear End, But With In Reason , Eg , Will It Match Up , I didnt Even Think Of That , And Bought A r6 00' Rear ., Then We Went To Dummy Mount It , Turns Out Its Pretty Much Perfect, Don;t Not How To Explain It , But The 2 Bars That Come From The Main Bit Of The Frame , On The r6 Rear , It Lines Up Fine , Now Its A Case Of Cutting And Reshapping The Front Seat To My Tank , But Im Sure Ill Get It :D

I Like That Look Tho

did you but the entire r6 rear end....the tail frame section, undertail and seat?  I would like to see some pictures of that.....Back to the buell tail section... It looks really close in the pictures, I am sure worst case I would have to weld some sort of bracket to the existing/remaining gs frame to get it to fit....

Jay_wolf

Yep The Whole Thing , As It Had The Light , Indicator, Rear Foot Rests, Both Seats , Battery Tray , Everything , Got It For 150 quid
300 Dollars Of Ebay , The Bloke Said It Was Priced Up At Yamaha At 850 Quid, Wether it True Or Not , I Dont Care

Yea Dude, As The Frames Steel , Gotta Weld Steel Plates Then Bolt Into That .

Yea Its At Paint At The Moment , Getting Ready For It To be Mounted , MetalFlake Blue ... Mhmmm :D

word sounds good.....yeah  everything I would need for the buell set up is on ebay ...seat, tail section, and the plastic undertail.  I think it looks alot cleaner that the stock setup..... and so what if its just a gs500.  Everyone has crotch rockets  :icon_lol: how many people have you actually seen in your travels (in real life) with a gs with a buell or r6 tail :o... not as many as the other.  But hey.

Thats Basicly , Why I Want To Do It , You See R1, Gsxr , Blades.. All The Same ,

A Modifyed gs . Wouldnt even no its a gs when im done ,

:D:D

Mines Gonna be So Trick , Like . Oh Is It haha

Btw ,Buying Plastics , or just a seat ,. means the subframe has to be modifyed , and u have to sort out lights, wiring , all the stuff ,

Buy The Rear End , Bolt It On... Simple  :D

gstwizzle

I'm guessing about as comfortable as riding any crotch rocket.....

servus,

to fit the buell x1 rear, you must cut the gs rear frame. then you must put new steel rear ends on the gs frame.

looks like here:

and here:

gstwizzle

did you weld the new steel ends to the main frame? Or could you make some sort of additional brackets off the remaining gs tail section?

No way, the angle is all wrong.  That setup looks completely unrideable to me, at least for anything more than a 5 min. cruise down the boulevard.  It's cool as a trophy, but I wouldn't want it for my only bike.
